      Mayrose is golden as Colonials win state title
      Freehold Boro girls repeat as Group III champions
            If they keep this up, Freehold Borough is going to have to proclaim the third Saturday in November as Girls Soccer Day. For the second straight year, the Colonial girls were given a police and fire escort through downtown Freehold Borough in celebration of their state championship win on Nov. 17.

      Braves get their state soccer championship
      Manalapan plays to 1-1 tie with Clifton in Group IV final
            Manalapan's first soccer state championships can be traced back to two years ago, according to midfielder Adam Rice. That fall, the Braves reached the semifinals of the Shore Conference Tournament and the finals of the Central Jersey Group IV playoffs. That run, Rice said, made the Braves change their priorities.

      Rebels, Cougars, Braves win on Thanksgiving
            The Thanksgiving dinner had a little better taste for the Colts Neck and Manalapan football teams following their football victories. Both teams clinched winning campaigns on Thursday with wins over their Thanksgiving Day rivals. In Colts Neck's case, it was Freehold Borough, 16-0, and in Manalapan's, they defeated Marlboro, 49-14.

      Andrews takes fourth at cross-country MOC
            Manalapan's Robby Andrews saved his best race of the season for when it mattered most: the NJSIAA Meet of Champions. Andrews sliced nine seconds off his Holmdel Park personal best, taking it down to 16:02 in finishing fourth and coming so close to joining the sub-16:00 club.

      Fish On
      Few bass are keepers for local fishermen
            Fishing remained solid throughout the past week, with schools of bass and big blues chasing bait from Sandy Hook to Barnegat Light. The story was the same this week: find the birds, and fish hard. Anglers jigged for bass and blues while constantly positioning themselves with the moving schools.

      Higginson still winning, takes Born to Run race
      Emanel overall winner of five-mile run in Freehold
            Fresh off an outstanding freshman college cross country season at Princeton University, Ashley Higginson was back on more familiar turf Friday. Competing in the 23rd annual Born to Run five-mile run through Freehold Borough, the Colts Neck High School grad won the women's race in 31:43.
