      Art, memorabilia auction at area temple Dec. 1
            The Brotherhood of Temple Shalom, 5 Ayrmont Lane, Aberdeen, will hold an art and memorabilia auction Dec. 1 with a preview at 7 p.m., and the auction at 8 p.m. Featured artwork will include limited edition lithographs and etchings, original oil paintings, animation cells and sports memorabilia. Artists featured include Delcacroix, Chagall, and Wyeth.

      Girl Scouts collect items for soldiers overseas
            Howell Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Troop 1190 recently participated in a community service project at Stop & Shop on Route 9 in Howell. The girls - Kristina, Daniella, Steffanie, Kelly and Kristine - were astonished by the response from the community and are grateful to everyone who contributed.

      Applications taken for Dare to Imagine Awards
            VSA arts of New Jersey (VSA/NJ), New Brunswick, is seeking nominations for the third annual Dare to Imagine Awards, with nomination deadline Jan. 7. Recipients will be announced in February and honored at a May ceremony. The awards honor adults who have made a positive difference in the life of an individual or individuals with disabilities.

      Burtnik, 'Mad Dog' will play in benefit show
            The Brighton Bar, 121 Brighton Ave., Long Branch, will present the Heart 911 Homecoming Show, sponsored by Bear Stearns, on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. The show will feature Glen Burtnik, former singer and lead guitarist for Styx; Steel Mill featuring Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez; and Lynam, which is currently touring with Vince Neil of Motley Crue.

      Howell Women's Club makes a difference
            As part of the Shore District of the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs of GFWC (NJSFWC), the Howell Women's Club joined with other district clubs in participating in the Federation Day of Service, held on National Make-A-Difference Day, Oct. 27 at Ocean County Library.

      Worship center will present play on Dec. 2
            Monmouth Worship Center, 176 Route 79, Marlboro, (a half-mile north of Route 520), will hold a special children's Christmas musical play on Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. The play is "Cookin' Up Christmas - Where Love is the Main Ingredient." Featured are characters named Paula Queen, Emerald Lasagna, Betty Rocker, Rachael Day and Martha Steward.
