      Colonials repeat as Central Jersey soccer champs Freehold Boro beats Hightstown
            As the players' shadows on the soccer pitch grew larger, so did Freehold Borough's mastery of Hightstown. Scoring three times in the second half, Freehold Borough completed its run to a second straight NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III girls soccer championship with a convincing 3-0 win over top-seeded Hightstown.

      Manalapan nips Howell, 1-0, in CJ IV
            Manalapan knew it had to do something different. After losing to Howell in the Shore Conference Tournament (SCT) final, 1-0, coach John Natoli had to find a way for his soccer team to generate more offense. In two of Manalapan's three matches with the Rebels, they had been shut out twice with Howell going 2-0-1.

      Shawnee ends Colonials' historic run to finals
            No other Freehold Borough field hockey team had ever won a state sectional title until 2007, and this year's squad didn't stop there. It made it all the way to Sunday's NJSIAA State Group III Championship game at Toms River High School East.

      Areas harriers qualify for X-country MOC
            Robby Andrews was doing mathematics while competing in Saturday's NJSIAA State Group IV cross country race. "I was counting numbers a little more than usual," said the Manalapan junior. With a place in this Saturday's Meet of Champions (MOC) on the line, Andrews wanted to make sure that he was going to move on. It took a Top 10 finish to automatically advance.

            Craig Forys continues to excel for the University of Michigan men's cross country team. Sunday, the freshman from Colts Neck High School finished 11th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, helping the Wolverines share the team championship with Wisconsin with both teams scoring 68 points.
