      Schools take precautions to halt potential infections
            Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District administrators and the Manalapan health officer have confirmed that a staph infection was recently diagnosed in a child at the Milford Brook School, but they said it was not the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria.

            FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Heidi Toth, Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) school nurse and the district nurse for the Freehold Township schools, was recently chosen as the 2008 New Jersey State School Nurse of the Year.

            MARLBORO - Pupils and staff members in the Marlboro K-8 School District participated in School Violence Awareness Week from Oct. 15-19 with activities that were designed to emphasize positive ways to resolve conflicts in school and at home.

      Seniors, students interact
            HOWELL - A group of senior citizens waited patiently for youngsters in the Ardena School to arrive in the cafeteria for their monthly game day. Minutes after the clock struck 2:14 p.m. to end the school day the silence in the cafeteria ceased and students' voices filled the room.

      Torah codes topic of lecture
            MANALAPAN - Torah Codes: "The Greatest Hoax or the Greatest Scientific Discovery" will be presented by Harold Gans at the Jewish Learning Center Community Synagogue, 138 Pine Brook Road, on Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. In 1994, the discovery of hidden codes in the Torah was described in a respected statistics journal, according to a press release.

      MHS to present 'The Crucible'
            MANALAPAN - The Manalapan High School Theater will present Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," which won the 1953 Tony award for Best Play. Miller won the Tony award as the author of that year's Best Play. Performances will be held on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the high school, 30 Church Lane.

            MARLBORO - Cindy Barr-Rague, the business administrator of the Marlboro K- 8 School District, was recently awarded her sixth certificate of excellence by the Association of School Business Officials International's certificate of excellence in financial reporting program.

      Early learning center dedicated in name of former board atty.
            MANALAPAN - The Manalapan- Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education held a formal dedication for the John I. Dawes Early Learning Center on Oct. 22. The school, which opened at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year, is named to honor attorney John I.
