      At county championships
            So much for the prerace game plan. Manalapan's Robby Andrews thought he would follow the leaders and look to use his superior 1:52 800 speed to hopefully outkick the other contenders at the Oct. 16 Monmouth County Cross Country Championships held at Holmdel Park.

      Higginson helps Princeton win Pre-Nationals race
            Ashley Higginson has become quite comfortable competing against national competition. In high school, she won indoor and outdoor national championships in the twomile run and anchored the Colts Neck 4x1-mile relay team to a pair of indoor national crowns.

      Marlboro bounces back to win A North tennis
            After chasing Colts Neck all season, the Marlboro girls tennis team finally caught the Cougars, and then passed them. In the final week of the regular season, Dave Kretzmer's Marlboro Mustangs captured the Shore Conference A North Division championship.

      Ray Rice's 181 yards on the ground lead Scarlet Knights to victory
            Rutgers needed this one. After putting together the most successful season in school history a year ago, the Scarlet Knights had seen a little bit of the shine come off their armor this season with disappointing back-toback losses to Maryland and Cincinnati after starting out 3-0.

            Marlboro's Ravi Gill made his first career start in goal for the Rutgers University's men's soccer team a memorable one. The sophomore registered a shutout in Rutgers' 2-0 win over the University of Pennsylvania last Wednesday. Gill stopped five shots as the Scarlet Knights, playing at home, improved to 6-7-1.

      Shore AC harriers shine at Masters
            Individually and as a team, Shore Athletic Club harriers were golden at USA Track and Field Masters National Five-Kilometer Cross Country Championships. Of the 14 medals won by the Shore AC runners at Saratoga Springs, N.Y., host of the event, seven of them were gold.

      Mustangs make SCT, CJ playoffs
            Marlboro's motivation in the first round of the Shore Conference Tournament was simple. If the Mustangs wanted to continue their 2007 soccer season, they needed to beat Wall Thursday afternoon. A loss would not only eliminate them from tournament, but end their season as well.
