Flaherty appointed to seat on school board in Howell

      HOWELL - Members of the Howell Board of Education have chosen David Flaherty to fill an open seat on the school board. Flaherty, a sergeant with the Howell Police Department, was sworn into office at the Sept. 26 board meeting. He was appointed to fill the seat of former board member Elizabeth O'Connell until April 2008.

      Public and private high schools in New Jersey are invited to participate in the third annual New Jersey Poetry Out Loud (NJPOL) program for a new take on poetry and a chance to represent the state in a national competition. NJ Poetry Out Loud builds on the recent resurgence of poetry as an oral art form.

Guidelines put into place for recess in Howell schools

      HOWELL - In an effort to address the inconsistencies associated with the way recess has been handled in Howell public schools, the Board of Education has established guidelines for all schools to follow. The guidelines are not policy or a mandate. Instead, they are the board's way of examining whether recess can successfully be reintegrated back into the school day.
