Turnover in homes may be hurting aid squad

Iwas actually surprised to read your recent article about donations to the Freehold First Aid Squad being down this year. This was hardly a surprise to me.

As a resident of Freehold Borough, I would be surprised if they had stayed at previous levels. Why? Many homes that used to belong to single families have been sold to absentee landlords who have turned them into Mexican rooming houses.

The families that used to support the first aid squad and other organizations in town that operate for the common good are gone and have been replaced by people who are unlikely to support (but certainly use) them.

I seriously doubt that the absentee landlords are making contributions and their tenants are probably not reached out to for support. No one should be surprised at the drop. We should, however, be concerned.
