      Fairgoers enjoyed four days of the 2007 Monmouth County Fair
            On July 29 the Monmouth County Fair ended on a wet note when a summer rain storm forced an early closing on its fifth and final day at the East Freehold Park showgrounds in Freehold Township. Interestingly, while it rained repeatedly in other parts of the county up until then, the fair enjoyed four solid days of dry weather, steady attendance and lots of fun.

      Rail service would serve population in this region
            Richard Krenzel's opposition to the Monmouth-Ocean-Middlesex (MOM) passenger rail line ("Where Is Guarantee that Rail Line Will Not Cause Home Value to Drop?" News Transcript, Letters to the Editor, July 11) appears to be based on home values and not the transportation needs of travelers.

            Academy Bus Lines has had a horrendous service record for decades because they have a service monopoly along the Route 9 corridor into downtown Wall Street, New York City. They just do not seem to care about the commuters.

      House concerts bring the music to Freehold Borough
            As a lifelong Freehold Borough resident, an ardent music fan and one who has attended several of Mark and Elaine Costanzo's "Concerts in the Studio," I am delighted to see that more reasonable heads prevailed at the zoning board meeting on July 24 ("Board Rules Concerts Are Permitted as House Party," New Transcript, Aug. 1, 2007).

      Mayor, council must do more to preserve open space
            It saddens me to drive around Marlboro these days and see so many "Land for Sale" signs. Those properties should read "Preserved for Open Space." I am shocked that this administration, both the Mayor and the Township Council, can look residents in the eye. They all platformed for open space yet virtually none has been purchased under this mayor.
