            + A "Boating Basics" course will be offered by New Jersey Boating Safety Classes on June 27-28. The two-evening course meets the needs of boaters and personal watercraft (PWC) operators for a basic overview of boat and PWC operation. Fee: $60. The course will be held at the Brandywine assisted living facility. 49 LaSatta Avenue, Englishtown. Classes will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

      Church to host drama to commemorate July Fourth
            To commemorate Independence Day, a special dramatic presentation by Kirk and Patti Lytle will be held at Monmouth Worship Center on Sunday, July 1, at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The live, inspirational drama is centered on the life of William Brewster, an elder of the Plymouth Colony, and his wife, Mary.

      Children invited to create nature-inspired artwork
            The Monmouth County Park System will hold several sessions of "Kids' Art at the Park." Youngsters are invited to create both representational and fantasy artwork inspired by nature. Students will focus on elements of design: line, color, value, shape, texture and space. Classes will be held both indoors and outdoors, so students should dress appropriately.

      Bible school offers kids the chance to 'travel'
            Children will have the opportunity to "travel" the United States while learning about God's love at Old Tennent Church's weeklong vacation Bible school. The program will be held 5:30-8:30 p.m. July 9-13 at the church, Tennent Road in the Tennent section of Manalapan.

      Battle of Bands at Howell library
            HOWELL - The first Teen Battle of the Bands presented by Howell Library, 318 Old Tavern Road, will kick off the young adult summer reading program June 30 from 1-4 p.m. (rain date July 7) at the library. The event provides the opportunity for teens to gather with friends to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of a summer of reading.

      Summertime film series featured at local libraries
            The Monmouth County Library will offer two summertime film series at its Manalapan and Marlboro branches, free of charge and open to the public. The film series "Summer Heat" will be shown at the Marlboro branch on Wyncrest Road, Marlboro, Thursdays at 2 p.m.

      Poetry, theater are perfect match in Freehold
            Poetry Without Borders will showcase five poets and spoken word artists in a special performance at the Center Playhouse on Kruise Night, June 28 from 7-9 p.m. at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., downtown Freehold. Among those sharing their works will be local high school teachers Michele Kallman and Bridget-Gage Dixon.

      July 4 event will come to harness track
            FREEHOLD - The Freehold Center Partnership will host its annual Independence Day celebration on July 4 (rain date July 5) from 5:30-10 p.m. at Freehold Raceway, Park Avenue (Route 33). Admission is free. The event will feature food vendors, craft vendors, live music, entertainment, amusements and games for children, and a fireworks display.
