      Higginson wins first outdoor state title

            Craig Forys said goodbye as only he can -magnificently.The Colts Neck senior, running the final races of his scholastic career in New Jersey, captured his record-tying eighth and ninth NJSIAA Meet of Champions gold medals on June 6 at the Frank Jost Field in South Plainfield.

      Brach, Hawks no easy win at NCAA tourney
            The names on the stadium fence - Reggie Jackson, Sal Bando, Barry Bonds - let Brad Brach and the Monmouth University baseball team know that they had graduated to the big time. After capturing the Northeast Conference Tournament championship, and with it, the automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals, the Hawks waited to see where they would be assigned.

      District lacrosse players cited by Shore coaches
            Mike Rosenblum, who set Freehold Township scoring records, heads the area players who were selected to the Shore Conference Lacrosse Coaches All-Shore First Team. Rosenblum, who plays attack, was joined on the First Team by his teammate, midfielder Zack Carroll, and Howell's midfielder, Kyle Marlborough.

When the two were given starting spots as freshmen four years ago, neither back then nor before this season could either of them have imagined such a great year - a year that brought the team two championships.

            The Battle of Monmouth Patriots, a fall U11 girls travel soccer team, are looking for dedicated and competitive players for the fall and spring seasons. The team will be holding tryouts on Monday at the Wemrock Fields at Wemrock Road and Route 537 in Freehold Township 6-7:30 p.m. The rain date is June 20. The Patriots will compete in the State Cup as well as indoor and outdoor tournaments.
