      Rancocas Valley denies Braves first CJ title

            It started back in March in Florida.The Manalapan High School girls softball team started 2007 on a road to the Sunshine State that could either pull the team together or apart. It brought the Braves together.

      Daluise's diving catch saved the day for Braves
            Deanna Daluise's future may be as Manalapan's starting pitcher, but she will be hard pressed to top what she did as a center fielder. In last week's Central Jersey Group IV semifinal at home, Daluise made the game-saving grab of a sinking line drive that propelled the Braves to their first-ever state sectional championship game.

            A wonderful year of golf in the Freehold Regional District concluded with an exciting District Tournament. Five golfers were within two strokes of champion Rob Perrone of Manalapan in what was one of the most competitive tournaments in recent years.

      Kelly defends her title; Colts Neck team winner
      At Freehold District Golf Tournament
            Meghan Kelly's repeat victory at the Freehold Regional District Golf Tournament had more to do with her will than her swing or putting stroke. The Howell junior, the defending champion, was sailing along on May 29 playing a solid round until the 15th hole at the Eagle Oaks Country Club in Howell when she found the water and took a quadruple bogey.

      Cougars best Ocean, 5-4, to reach title game for first time
            Colts Neck's baseball team will look to hang another banner in the school's gymnasium tonight. The Cougars, who have already won the program's first championship, Shore Conference A North Division, will play Christian Brothers Academy in the Shore Conference Tournament final at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

      Young Mustangs eye being contenders
            It's often difficult for a coach to consider a season where his team won less than 29 percent of its games a great year. But Marlboro High School's softball coach, Tom Mulcahey, has many reasons to be cheerful. For one, after dropping their first 11 games, the Mustangs regrouped and won six of their last 10, and four of their last five.

      Vento, Forys, Frick qualify for NCAA Championships
            Former Freehold District high school stars Debra Vento and Matt Forys will be concluding their collegiate careers this week in Sacramento, Calif., at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Also going to the nationals is another former District star, Justin Frick, who is a freshman at Princeton University and will be making his national debut.

            Larry R. Schiner of Manalapan announced that he is retiring as the director of athletics at New Jersey City University on July 1 after 40 years at the college, the last 30 as the AD. He is one of the longest-serving ADs in the nation at any level. He has served as the athletic director at New Jersey City University since 1977.
