Say this for the 2007 Marlboro High School boys volleyball team, it provided a lot of drama. The Mustangs literally took their playoff bid down to the wire. Sporting a 7-10 record with three matches to play before the state playoff cut-off date (May 15) to be .500, the Mustangs had no margin for error. More ... When coaches look forward to next season, more often than not, it was a rebuilding year for their team. They figure with a year's experience, their team will turn things around. Manalapan High School baseball coach Brian Boyce, however, has a different reason to be happy about his club's prospect in 2008. More ... Jesse Pagliano and Lindsey Rappleyea took turns winning the Shore area's championships. First, Pagliano (5-4) and Rappleyea (5-2) went one-two at the Monmouth County Championships. At the Shore Conference meet, Rappleyea matched her teammate's 5-4 in capturing the conference title. More ... Bucknell University's Matt Forys earned All-Patriot League honors after starring at the league's track and field championships for the Bison. The senior, who is a Howell High School graduate, won the 10,000 meters (30:55.92) earning First Team All-Patriot recognition and was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:01.03) earning Second Team mention. More ... The last two Aprils have been a nightmare for the girls lacrosse team of Howell High School. This time around, the team woke up. The 14-8 defeat to Holmdel on the last day of the month dropped the Rebels to 2-7, the same record they held going into May last year, and left Howell one loss away from another season without an appearance in the state playoffs. The Freehold Borough Little League's Home Run Derby, sponsored by Century 21, will be held on Saturday at the Little League fields on Fourth St. Registration will be held in the club from 9:30-10 a.m. with the batting contest at 10:15 a.m. All participants must be residents of Freehold Borough or play in the Freehold Borough Little League.
