      Forys, Higginson add three titles to collections
      Batts, Unachukwu win two at county track championships
            Craig Forys and Ashley Higginson matched each other win-for-win at the two-day Monmouth County Championships held at Neptune High School. The Colts Neck runners, whose brilliant careers almost parallel each other, each won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter races and were named the Male and Female Most Outstanding Track Performers. At this point in time, the track belongs to them.

      Hawks sweep both NEC track and field titles
            The Northeast Conference Track and Field Championships were doubly sweet for Monmouth University. The Hawks hosted the championships (May 5-6) and won both the men's and women's titles. It was a record fourth straight championship for the men, and the women's first since 2004.

      Sports Shorts
            Lindsey Gallo turned in the fastest 1,500-meter run in the United States this year when the Howell High School graduate won the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational race in 4:09.60. She eclipsed the meet record set back in 1990 by PattiSue Plumer of 4:12.89.

      Braves wrap up third straight division title
            Manalapan High School's softball team made it official Wednesday.The Braves are the outright Shore Conference A North Division champions for the third consecutive year. Ashley Rampino's four-hitter, supported by a 12-hit attack, topped Freehold Township, 6-0, to give the Braves the division title outright.

      Jersey Blues win streak ends at 11
            The 2007 Brookdale Community College women's softball season can be summed up as one of lost opportunities. Despite winning the Garden State Athletic Conference and earning the No. 1 seed for the Region XIX championship, the Blues were never very consistent when it came to hitting with runners in scoring position.

      DiLeo fifth, Mustangs second in SCT golf
            Pat DiLeo may be a sophomore, but he hardly plays like an underclassmen on the golf links. Thanks to his years of competing on the Junior Golf America circuit founded by his mother and father Chuck and Gina DiLeo, the Manalapan golfer is anything but a novice still learning the ropes.

      In just their second season, Rebels win title
            It didn't take very long for the Howell High School boys volleyball team to hang up its first championship banner. Playing with a consistency not expected of a second-year team, the Rebels won the Shore Conference A North Division public schools title. Howell put the finishing touches on its championship last week when the Rebels beat Long Branch, 2-0, and improved to 11-4 overall.
