Every vote counts in annual school election
Did you know that last year Marlboro had the highest voter turnout for a school budget election of all the local districts in Monmouth County? I'm very proud of that fact as a parent who is involved in Project 3000. Project 3000 was established as an informational campaign designed to keep the public informed on the school budget election each year via e-mail.

Federal government must address issue of illegal immigration
Let me start out by saying that I don't believe I have a prejudiced bone in me. My own mother immigrated to this country by herself when she was 16. The difference between what my mother did and what the illegal immigrants do today is vast.

One-party government lacks checks and balances
During the three years in which Robert Kleinberg has been Marlboro's mayor, he has drawn most attention by his efforts to posture himself as a corruption crusader. ACLU attorney responds to statements about settlement
In the News Transcript's April 4 article about Manalapan's settlement of the racial discrimination lawsuit ("Both Sides Claim Victory in Settlement of Lawsuit"), Manalapan Mayor Andrew Lucas asserts that the Manalapan Police Department was "vindicated," and Man-alapan police Capt. Lou Moreto notes the police department's commitment to "high professional standards." Capt.

PBA president says officers did nothing wrong to youths
Why is it that the public does not always hear the rest of the story? The media reported that a bias lawsuit was settled against the Manalapan Police Department in the amount of $275,000. What was not clear is that the lawsuit against the two officers and any demands on the police department were dismissed prior to any settlement.

School budgets deserve more attention from voters
How apathetic will people be for this year's school board and budget elections on April 17? If two separate meetings I attended this past week are any indication then this election, like most others, will be poorly attended.
