There was never a doubt who owned the 2006-07 boys basketball season.Brian Golub's Freehold Township Patriots put together one of the great seasons in Freehold Regional District history and, it goes without saying, the best in school history. More ... The 2006-07 girls basketball season gave the area plenty to cheer about.Freehold Borough, Colts Neck and Howell all had their moments during the season. The Colonials were the area's best team throughout the season. Jen Brzucki's Colonials won the Kuhnert Holiday Tournament and challenged Neptune for the B North Division titles. More ... St. John Vianney's Alisa Apo and Red Bank Regional's Kyle Fitzgerald were both named Player of the Year by the Shore Basketball Coaches. Apo, a senior who lives in Howell, brought the Lancers to prominence in 2006-07 behind her sparkling all-around play. She averaged 18 points a game to lead the offense and was just as valuable on defense, averaging 3.0 assists a game. More ... Craig Forys has routinely made the extraordinary ordinary - like winning the NJSIAA Indoor Meet of Champions 3,200 meter title The Cougar, seemingly without effort, destroyed his nearest rival and when it was over, he had established a new championship meet record and the fastest time in the nation (9:03.58) for the year. In the case of the girls indoor track and field season, Ashley Higginson's victory in the two-mile run at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships was the highlight of what was a tremendous season in the Freehold Regional District. More ... The Monmouth Gymnastics Academy's Cyclones, a boys gymnastics team, shined at the recent 2007 USAG State Championships, hosted by AAG, Lyndhurst. The Cyclones' Level 7 team took home the first-place team trophy for the state, while the Level 5 and 6 teams placed second. The entire Cyclones team has qualified for Regionals. More ... Plainsboro's Stefan Kolata won the 31st running of the E. Todd Murray Half-Marathon held at Brookdale Community College. Kolata routed the 13.1-mile course that took runners around a looped course through sections of Lincroft, Holmdel and Colts Neck before returning to the BCC campus for the finish, in 1:13.03.
