I am writing to share my reaction to the Borough Council meeting that took place in Freehold Borough on March 5. For those of you who did not attend, I will summarize briefly. Councilman Marc Le Vine wrote a reaction on a Web site in November 2006 to an article written by Heather MacDonald titled "Hispanic Family Values? More ... On March 8 I sat in the freeholders room packed with criticizers of the 2007 Monmouth County budget. I understood the explanation of the newly elected freeholder that she needed more time before approving the 2007 county budget, but I was stunned to see the other dissenting freeholder vote no on its passage and without any explanation why. More ... Now that (Monmouth County Freeholder) Anna Little has ducked a background check and has fled the Republican Party, she suddenly has problems with (county counsel) Malcolm Carton's legal fees. Why didn't she have a problem with the billing and rates before? Why didn't she demand paperwork before? Why did she vote to approve bills before? More ... Greg Bean's "Concerned Citizens" piece in the Feb. 22 issue of Tri-Town News (" 'Concerned Citizen' is Still Busy Writing Letters") was interesting despite its snarky and mean comments about people who might have very good reasons for being concerned and very good reasons for wanting to remain anonymous apart from the cowardice he so blithely attributed to them. Recently, several articles appeared in our local newspapers saying members of the Latino community were very upset with comments posted on the PEOPLE (Pressing Elected Officials to Preserve our Living Environment) Internet Web page, by Councilman Marc Le Vine, a member of the Freehold Borough governing body. I hope the tragedy in the Bronx has proven to the people of Freehold Borough the necessity of supporting our Borough Council members and their efforts in the prevention of illegal housing in our town. Twenty-two people, all illegal immigrants, living in a single-family dwelling was disastrous for them, and potentially for their neighbors. This is everyday life in Freehold. More ... |
