      Cougar girls defend relay title
            It all started with an electrifying 1,600 meters by Craig Forys on Friday afternoon and concluded with Ashley Higginson's national title Sunday. From the New York City Armory to Landover, Md., Colts Neck High School runners enjoyed a weekend unlike any ever witnessed by an area school.

      Shore Athletic Club names its 2007 award-winners
            New Jersey high school state cross country champions Craig Forys of Colts Neck and Danielle Tauro of Southern Regional were among the track and field athletes recognized by the Shore Athletic Club. Forys and Tauro, whose talents carried over to the track, where they were All-Americans, were named the Boys and Girls High School Athlete of the Year at the club's annual banquet.

      YMCA relay team breaks meet record in Gloucester
            Swimmers from the YMCA of Western Monmouth County distinguished themselves both individually and as relay teams at the Y Silver Championships held in Gloucester. The Eagle Rays finished fifth overall in the team standings that included 30 clubs from throughout the state.

      Howell looks forward after loss in section final
            There wasn't the usual sense of finality when the Howell High School girls basketball team walked off the court on March 6. Yes, the Rebels' 2006-07 season had come to an end in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV championship game, falling to their nemesis, Trenton Central, 51-24, at Sayreville High School.

      Freehold Area Running Club's St. Paddy's 10-miler is Sunday
            The Freehold Area Running Club is extending St. Patrick's Day - for runners and racewalkers, that is. The club's 17th annual Nestle Beverage Co. St. Paddy's 10-Mile Race will be held on Sunday, the day after St. Patrick's Day. For participants, it means an extra day to celebrate the green and Erin Go Bragh.

            Katherine Rowland of Freehold is a goalie on the Rowan University women's lacrosse team. The Profs have gotten off to a 1-1 start. Rowland, a senior, is a graduate of St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel. Former NHL players from the New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers and New York Islanders will appear at the Ocean Ice Palace March 24 at 6 p.m.
