      Fobes peaks at right time, places second in state
      Rebel is runner-up at 125; Accardi, Frankel also place

            In Atlantic City, wrestlers either rise to the occasion, or shrink.You can count Howell's Cody Fobes among those who met the challenge. Saving his best wrestling for the state finals, held Friday through Sunday, Fobes finished second in the state in the 125-pound weight class.

            The Cyclones boys gymnastics team from Monmouth Gymnastics Academy, Morganville, competed at the fourth annual Temple University Invitational in Philadelphia, where they dominated the competition. The Level 7 and Level 6 teams won the first-place team awards, he Level 10 team placed second, and the Level 5 team was third.

            Marlboro's Tom Zubulake received the Lehigh University Scholar Athlete Award at the university's fall sports banquet. The senior, majoring in accounting, posted a 3.35 grade point average in the fall and has an overall GPA of 3.47 and is multi-year Academic Honor Roll honoree.

      SJV's Apo wins Kerwin Award as Shore's top basketball player
            Alisa Apo, a senior guard at St., John Vianney High School, Holmdel, has been named the 2007 recipient of the Margaret M. and James J. Kerwin Memorial Award, symbolic of being the best girls basketball player in the Shore. The award has been given out yearly since 1974. Apo, who lives in Howell, is the fourth Lancer to receive this honor.

      Underdog Rebels climb back to sectional final
            Relishing their role as an underdog, the Howell High School girls basketball team has ridden it all the way to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV finals. With Friday night's 36-33 win over No. 3 seed Hillsborough, the 10th-seeded Rebels completed their unlikely climb back to the state sectional final.

            In a span of three days and two races, Allyson Moskal leaped to the front of the pack. After the Freehold Township sophomore broke 5:00 for the 1,600 (4:59.20 in finishing third at the NJSIAA Indoor Meet of Champions on Feb. 24) and then won the Eastern States two-mile run on Feb.
