Cartoon captures emotion in wake of accident
I do not know if there are awards for the cartoons that we find in the opinion section of the News Transcript. However, the one published on Jan. 17 by John Carey should be a nominee. Anyone with any present or past ties to Freehold Borough High School knows only too well what he meant. All Colonials are in tears and we all feel that a part of us has been lost.

One local family follows its own rule for teenage driver
This is in response to Jeff Kneler's letter in the Jan. 24 edition of the News Transcript regarding identifying young drivers in vehicles ("Young Drivers Need a Way to be Identified in Vehicles"). I have four children, ages 17, 15, 12 and 9. I do not think the police or other officials should have to add on to their already busy jobs.

Unsuccessful search for application irks Howell resident
I have just come home from the tax assessor's office in search of farm assessment application forms unsuccessfully. I was flabbergasted to hear that they do not have any and will not have any until June. I was shocked to think that they would not have one copy leftover that they could at least make a copy for me.

Campaign spending limits needed in local elections
Who knows? Maybe the Manal-apan governing body will listen to me now that I am a resident. For the last two years in office I asked the governing body to pass a law that I believe will put an end to pay for play, political favors, nasty campaigns. That law would pertain to campaign spending limits.

Resident says illegal immigrants have no place in USA
I take exception to Lazaro Cardenas' comments about Freehold Borough's attempts to rid itself of illegal aliens ("Personal View Does Not Mean Member Has to Quit Panel," Your Turn, News Transcript, Jan. 24, 2007). Nowhere in Mr. Cardenas' comments does he discuss the illegality of these people.

Beer keg tracking may be way to keep tabs on problem
Beer keg parties may seem like a rite of passage for many young adults, but the fact is, kegs contribute to high-risk underage drinking that could result in tragedy. Because kegs enable one adult over the age of 21 to purchase and supply alcohol to dozens of young people, they are often associated with heavy drinking that can lead to accidents and even death by alcohol poisoning.

Candidates for office have to come up with solutions
It is time for another lesson in the land use law for citizens running for office in Marlboro. While the Plan-ning Board is the mayor's board, the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law provides the following as to its membership: Class I member - the mayor of the township or in his absence his designee. I am not sure if I can make that any clearer.

Englishtown resident glad to see accident was reported
Thank you for your editorial, "Hello? Anyone home?" in the Jan. 24 News Transcript. We have been wondering about this incident (in Eng-lishtown) since it occurred on Jan. 11. Our power went out around 2 p.m. Jan. 11. It blinked two or three times, but did not come back on right away. All of a sudden my daughter cried out, "Look at the smoke!
