      Howell wrestlers pin down A North title
      SCT begins tonight; Rebels are 16-0
            A berth in this weekend's Shore Conference Tournament final would be a first for the Howell High School wrestling program. The Rebels have been to the semifinals before, but they've never been in the Saturday finals. A finals berth, and perhaps a win, would be a sure sign that the 2006-07 Rebels are on their way to being the finest team in school history.

      Cougars' sprint medley team sets Shore Conference record
      Colts Neck girls win three events at Lavino Relays
            Another meet, another record for Colts Neck's flying Cougars. Colts Neck's girls took down the Shore Conference record for the sprint medley relay at Saturday's Lavino Relays at the Lawrenceville School. Kathlyn Herrick, Julia Tomaro, Meryl Wimberly and Ashley Higginson teamed up to run a 4:12.9 to break the meet and Shore Conference record, which was 4:13.

      Kelly, Howell repeat, Cougar boys sweep
      At District Bowling Championships
            Meghan Kelly and the Howell Rebels duplicated their 2006 wins at the Freehold Regional District Bowling Championships. Kelly again rolled the high game of the competition, held at Country Lanes in Manalapan Thursday, with a 244.

            Jack Withstandley has Freehold Township wrestling back on the road to prominence. The one-time Patriot star has Freehold Township in position to make the postseason this year in both the Shore Conference Tournament and Central Jersey Group IV playoffs.

      Brookdale hitting its stride after slow start
      Blues have won five straight
            Paul Cisek has become a film critic.Since surgery (on Jan. 7) has kept him away from games and practices, he has gotten a different look at his Brookdale Community College men's basketball team. He has been watching them on film. Thus far, the reviews have been positive. The Blues are on a four-game win streak and in a solid position to make the Region XIX tournament next month.

      Keller leads Monmouth assault on record books
      Five records - all at Penn State
            Monmouth University school records took a tumble at the Penn State Relays. Hawk athletes broke five school track and field records at the meet held in State College, Pa. Matawan's Chris Keller had a hand in one of the records - the weight throw relay. The ex-Husky star was second overall in the weight throw, reaching 59-6. Teammate Larry Lundy (Friendsville, Pa.

            Marlboro's Tom Zubulake completed his fine career with the Lehigh University men's soccer team by playing in the NCAA Tournament. Zubulake, a defender, helped the Mountain Hawks achieve a perfect 7-0 record in Patriot League play and an overall record of 15-2-3. Lehigh advanced to the third round of the NCAA, the furthest any team has gone before.
