      Fobes' sudden-death OT win sparks Howell
      Rebels rally to beat Ocean
            In a match where every point bore significance, it was a point not surrendered that fueled Howell's 36-22 victory over Ocean Township in a clash of state-ranked powers on Jan. 10. With Howell trailing 19-10, undefeated Cody Fobes took the mat against a Spartan wrestler, Zac Coulas, equally undefeated and ranked No. 7 in the state, for the match of the night at 125 pounds.

      Patriot swim teams edge closer to championship
           Quantity won out over quality when Freehold Township's boys swimming team beat Howell on Jan. 9. As a result, the Patriots are one step closer to a championship. Showcasing their depth, the Patriots topped the Rebels, 95-74, at the YMCA of Western Monmouth County and took control of the Shore Conference A North Division.

      Patriots rally to win at Battle on the Boardwalk
      Unsung stars Wilmot, Frost make the difference
            As if they needed it, the Freehold Township boys basketball team picked up more momentum Saturday. The Patriots, playing shorthanded, remained undefeated (10-0) with a come-from-behind win over South Jersey power Holy Spirit, 52-49, in Asbury Park's Convention Hall in the Battle on the Boardwalk.

      Bowling titles on the line tomorrow
            Some of the finest bowlers in the Shore Conference, if not the state, will roll for Freehold Regional District titles tomorrow at Country Lanes in Manalapan. Howell's girls and Manalapan's boys are the defending champions, while Howell's Meghan Kelly and Freehold Township's Andrew Bohn rolled the high games of last year's championship.

      Warm weather means plenty of fish around
            "Fish On!! Fish On!!" - that's what New Jersey anglers are saying after taking advantage of the unusually warm weather this weekend. Striped bass fishing was exceptionally good, as anglers were picking bass right from the surf in Sandy Hook and a good number of bass were released along the surf. Once again the white storm shad produced most of the action.
