Joe L. Morris Jr. Mr. Morris, 79, of Freehold, died Aug. 12 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Bullock, Ala., he had resided in Freehold since 1946. He was employed as a nursing attendant for both Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, Marlboro, and the John L. Montgomery Care Center, Freehold Township, for more than 40 years. Mr. Morris was also a member of Bethel AME Church, Freehold Township. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Myrna, as well as a son, Dwight Morris, and a daughter, Rhonda L. Morris. Surviving are a son, Reginald Morris of Freehold; three brothers, Willie James of Michigan, Charles Morris of Vineland and Henry Morris of Cliffwood; three sisters, Evangelist Lou Ella Gould and Ruby Morris, both of Trenton, and Minnie Watson of the Lawrenceville section of Lawrence; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Clark of the Keasbey section of Woodbridge. Services took place at Bethel AME Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Enrico George Farina Mr. Farina, 59, of Manchester Township, died Aug. 15 at home. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he had lived in Manalapan for 20 years before moving to Renaissance in Manchester five years ago. He was a self-employed Sheetrock installer for more than 40 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during Vietnam as a military policeman and was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroism and valor during the Tet Offensive. An avid golfer, Mr. Farina was a member of the Renaissance Golf Club, where he played more than 200 rounds of golf last year. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Frances; a son, Joseph Farina of Freehold Township; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheryl Farina of Hackensack, and Tina and Leonard Lombardo of Manalapan; a brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Shelley Farina of Staten Island; and a grandson, Joseph. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Marlboro, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel's Mausoleum, also Marlboro. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. John "Brian" Doherty Mr. Doherty, 69, of Manalapan, died July 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York, he had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan in 1969. Prior to retiring in 1998, he was an information-technology manager for both Ryan Beck & Co., West Orange, and JFK Medical Center, Edison. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Doherty was predeceased by his wife, Grace, in 1997. Surviving are a son, John Doherty of Manalapan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lorraine Doherty of San Diego, and Linda Doherty Tilton and William Tilton of North Hanover Township; two grandchildren; and his companion, Maryellen Doyle of the Morganville section of Marlboro. Entombment took place at St. Gabriel's Mausoleum, Marlboro. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Virginia Annie Schwarz Mrs. Schwarz, 82, of Englishtown, died July 24 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Union, she had lived in East Brunswick before moving to Englishtown 45 years ago. Mrs. Schwarz was employed as a custodian for the Englishtown school system for 12 years, and later as a tester for E.W.C. Controls, Manalapan, for 17 years, before her retirement 10 years ago. She was predeceased by her son, Charles Schwarz Jr., in 1956. Surviving are her husband, Charles Schwarz Sr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Nancy Schwarz of Englishtown; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Elsworth Penson of Pottsville, Pa.; a brother, Chester Coddington of Lavallette; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. Lottie Canada Mrs. Canada, 86, of Freehold, died Aug. 10 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Fort Valley, Ga., she had lived in Englishtown before moving to Freehold more than 55 years ago. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Canada was a packer for the Apache Tomato Co., Colts Neck. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie Canada, in 1991, as well as a daughter, Anne Davis. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Willie and Olivia Canada, and Edward Canada; four daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy, Rosella and Lottie Canada, and Marie and Samuel Williams; a brother, Charlie Davis; a sister, Lizzie Cattle; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.
Gertrude Bramson Mrs. Bramson, 92, a longtime Freehold resident, died Aug. 11 of complications resulting from a fall. Born in Newark, she was raised there and in Irvington before moving to Freehold in 1961. Prior to retiring in 1982, Mrs. Bramson taught home economics at Freehold High School, Freehold Borough, and Manalapan High School. She had also previously taught home economics in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a member of the Freehold Jewish Center, Freehold. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Pratt Institute in New York City and a master of arts degree in guidance from New York University. As a retiree, she became a member of the Freehold Township Juvenile Parole Board, in which she was active for 25 years, and served as its secretary. She also started a volunteer reading tutoring program in the Freehold schools for elementary school students. In addition, she was an avid opera, ballet and theater fan. Mrs. Bramson was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Oscar Bramson. She is survived by four children, Ginger, Phil, Paul and Bob; an older sister, Nettie; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services were held at Bloomfield Cooper Funeral Chapel, Manalapan.
