Two injured in Rt. 79 crash
MARLBORO - Two drivers were injured following a head-on motor vehicle collision on Route 79.
According to information provided by police, at 6:38 p.m. June 9, Charles Dooling, 21, of Marlboro, was traveling north on Route 79, just north of Beacon Hill Road, in a Volkswagen Jetta.
Police said a vehicle that was not involved in the accident was stopped in front of Dooling in the northbound lane.
Dooling passed that vehicle on the right, but as he started to re-enter the lane from the shoulder he observed another vehicle in the northbound lane. He veered away from that vehicle into the southbound lane of the highway and struck a Honda CRV head on.
According to police, the driver of the Honda, Jennifer Evans, 29, of Marlboro, was transported by the Morganville First Aid Squad to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with chest and leg injuries. According to Marlboro police Lt. Douglas Van Note, Evans was released from the hospital that evening.
After Dooling was extricated from his vehicle by the Morganville and Roberts-ville fire companies, he was transported by a New Jersey State Police helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with major trauma to both legs, according to police.
According to Van Note, Dooling was still in the hospital as of June 16.
The accident is being investigated by Patrolman Brandon Stacey and the Marl-boro Township Traffic Bureau. Also assisting in the investigation is Sgt. Joseph Lenge, supervisor of the Traffic Bureau, and Patrolman Kenneth Marone, a member of the Traffic Bureau.
