      Chris Raniere, of Manalapan, a junior at Alvernia College (Pa.) was named to the All-Pennsylvania Conference Baseball Team's Second Team. Raniere, an infielder, batted .399 and led the Crusaders with seven home runs. His 59 RBIs ranked 11th in the country, and he had a slugging percentage of .655 and 110 total bases (second best on the team). Alvernia won the PAC title and qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year. They finished the season with a 30-13 won-lost record. Ranieri is a graduate of St. John Vianney.

      Freehold Borough High School has vacancies for the following coaching positions - girl's head tennis coach and assistant football coach. Candidates must have earned a minimum of 60 college credits. Interested candidates, should call (732) 431-8360, ext. 8370 for more information.

      The Manalapan Eclipse, an U14 girl's Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association travel team, will hold tryouts for the fall season (U15 in the fall) on June 10 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Clark Mills/Milford Brook School. Players must be born after Aug. 1, 1991, to be eligible. There is no residency requirement. If interested, contact coach Manny at (908) 415-4621 or at Manbelt@optonline.net.

      The U14 Girls Manalapan Soccer Club Mavericks Travel Team, which competed in the Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association, will be holding open tryouts for all interested players for the U15 2006-07 season. The team will be expanding its roster. Tryouts will be held on June 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Milford Brook School soccer fields on Globar Terrace in Manalapan.       Freehold Borough's second annual Home Run Derby will be held on Saturday at the Little League Complex on Fourth Street. Rain date is Sunday.

      Registration will be taken between 3:15-4 p.m. All participants must be accompanied by an adult and be a resident of Freehold Borough. Proof of residency (example: utility bill, home insurance, etc.) and child's age are required. Freehold Borough Little League players have already met the participation requirements, and a $5 entry fee payable upon registration. Players will be grouped by divisions: Colonial, Major, Junior and Senior. The grand prize for the winner and chaperone is a trip to the Major League Home Run Derby in Pittsburgh.

      The 2006 Future Stars Baseball Camp will be held at Michael J. Tighe Park on June 26-30. The camp is directed by Lou Piccola, former head coach at Xaverian High School and Frank DelGeorge, the head coach at St. Francis College. There will be two sessions, one for players ages 7-8 and one for players 9-13. The session for 7-8-year-olds will run from 9 a.m. to noon and the fee is $100. The session for ages 9-13 will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the fee is $150. For more information on the baseball camp, call (732) 577-9625.

      On Thursday, June 8, the Manalapan Wildcats girls (to be U15) travel team will be holding tryouts for the upcoming fall season for any girls born after August 1992. The tryouts will be held at the Manalapan Rec Center field A with sign-in at 5:45 p.m., and tryout ending at 7:30.       This past weekend the 20th Annual Memorial Day soccer Tournament was held in Manalapan and for the second consecutive year the Manalapan Wildcats U14 girls team captured the first-place trophy for their flight. The Manalapan Wildcats consist of Stephanie Nacco, Alexa Giallombardo, Leah Serao, Olivia Tkach, Olivia Musto, Shannon Ciprut, Rachel Grimm, Nicole Fratangelo, Shannon Barter, Chelsea Thorsheim, Maureen Nealon, Megan McCartney Maggie Tabacchi, Logan Stieglitz and Amanda McBride. They are coached by Buzz Ciprut, Walter Tkach and Rich McCartney.
