Open Door food pantry honors volunteers

Freehold Area Open Door Inc., an ecumenical volunteer-run food pantry in Freehold Borough, held its annual volunteer appreciation luncheon May 4.

New Beginnings Agape Christian Center, one of 17 faith communities supporting Open Door, hosted the event. The buffet lunch was catered by The Hungry Hearts Cafe of the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and was enjoyed by 50 Open Door volunteers. Delicious Orchards, Colts Neck, donated a cake for the festivities.

Jeanne Yaecker, director of Open Door, presented the Jean Conover Volunteer of the Year award to Lynda Curcio of Freehold Township for her service to the Open Door lunch program.

The John Breslin Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Kathy Alwill and Ramona Pappas, both of Freehold Township, for their many years of service to Open Door programs. Call Open Door at (732) 780-1089 Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
