Workshops on children's issues to be held in May

The Goddard School in Marlboro will sponsor three workshops on children's issues. The events are free and open to the community.

"Protecting Your Child" will be presented by the Marlboro Police Department on May 10 and will discuss how to protect a child from predators and dangerous situations, the warning signs and actions to teach a child, and what the local threat is.

On May 16, "Recognizing Speech Deficiencies" will be presented by Karen Kupfer of MidState Therapy Associates, Manalapan, and will address the early signs of impaired or problematic speech, what speech difficulties are typical at what ages, and where a parent can turn for evaluation and assistance.

"Signs of Learning Disabilities" will be presented by Robert Klein, director of the Marlboro Township Board of Education's Department of Special Services on May 24. Klein will discuss the signs of a learning disability, how to differentiate between development lags and clinical problems, and where to find professional assistance.

Each workshop will begin at 6:15 p.m. and run for 30 minutes, plus questions and answers. The Goddard School is located at 15 School Road East. For more information, call the owner, Roger Lodi, (732) 303-8445.
