      Obituaries

      Francis A. Boardwick

      Mr. Boardwick, 76, of Union Beach, died Sept. 3 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Union Beach, he was a lifelong resident. He was a mechanic at Remsen Dodge, Hazlet, for 20 years, retiring in 1994. Prior to that, he was a blast furnace foreman at National Lead, Perth Amboy, for 26 years. He was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, and enjoyed CB radios. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte Cullen Boardwick; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Thomas and Adrian Boardwick of Middletown, Frank and Kathy Boardwick of Keyport, and John Boardwick, and Robert and Karen Boardwick, all of Union Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Boardwick and Neil Swerdloff of Keyport; three sisters, Naomi Summers of Florida, Lolita Thomson of Hazlet, and Elenor Zilinski of Colts Neck; and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

      Ann Todaro

      Mrs. Todaro, 94, of Freehold Township, died Aug. 17 at Bartley Manor, Jackson Township. Born in Hauto, Pa., she had lived in New York City before moving to Freehold Township 11 years ago. She Todaro was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mrs. Todaro was predeceased by her husband, Francis Todaro, in 1949; and a daughter, Jeanette DiVita. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Donald J. and Eileen Todaro, with whom she lived; a brother, George Kmetz of Pennsylvania a sister, Mary Spiro of Dumont; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.

      Catherine M. “Katie” Schlipf

      Mrs. Schlipf, 80, of Ocean Township, died Aug. 19 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in the Phalanx section of Colts Neck Township, she resided in Ocean the past 61 years. She was employed at Laird and Company, Scobeyville, for 55 years, retiring 10 years ago. She enjoyed animals, gardening and the outdoors. She was predeceased by her husband, Adolph “Skip” Schlipf in 2000; and a brother, Joseph Oryll in 1990. She is survived by three sisters, Margaret Layton of Colts Neck Township, Ruth Deptula of Freehold and Frances Case of Ocean Township; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements were by Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.

      The Rev. Samuel C. LaPenta Sr.

      The Rev. LaPenta, 84, of Old Bridge, formerly of Colts Neck, died Aug. 21 in the Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Ordained in 1961, he served the Colts Neck Reformed Church until his retirement in 1985. A son, Samuel Chris LaPenta Jr., died in 1984. Surviving are his wife, Jean Crouthamel LaPenta; a son, David of Philadelphia; two daughters, Jean LaPenta of Jackson and Beth Cavanaugh of Connecticut; a brother, Virgil of Galloway; a sister, Toni Hoffman of Philadelphia; and six grandchildren. Services were held at Colts Neck Reformed Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Colts Neck Reformed Church, P.O. Box 57, Colts Neck, NJ 07722, or to the Reformed Church Home, 1990 Route 18, Old Bridge, NJ 08857.
