      Manalapan Recreation slates meeting for parents

      Manalapan Parks and Recreation will host an orientation meeting for parents and guardians of children who will be attending the township’s summer recreation program, as well as for those who are considering enrolling their children. There will be an opportunity to register children for the program at the conclusion of the presentation.

      There will also be an opportunity to meet building supervisors and head counselors from each program site.

      The meeting will be held July 5 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Manalapan Municipal Center, 120 Route 522, in the courtroom. Details: Recreation, (732) 446-8355.

      Local residents selected for state posts

      Acting Gov. Richard J. Codey recently submitted several nominations to the state Senate, including the following residents from Monmouth County: Doreen Autumn Wind Scott, of Farmingdale and Helen K. Rende, Ph.D., of Marlboro, Commission on American Indian Affairs; Joseph A. McNamara, of Middletown. and Celeste Carpiano, of Colts Neck, state Employment and Training Commission; David Markunas of Millstone, Historic Sites Council; and Wilson H. Beebe Jr. of Rumson, Small Employer Health Benefits Program Board of Directors.

      The nominations are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

      Freehold congregation sponsoring trip to A.C.

      Congregation Kol Am, of Freehold, is sponsoring a day trip to Trump Plaza, Atlantic City, July 24.

      The cost is $49 per person and includes transportation via coach bus, a ticket to “Cirque Dreams,” a buffet meal and $10 in quarters.       Local musicians perform in Steinway concert

      Members of the Cecilian Music Club, Howell, and Shore Music Educators were featured in an all-piano recital held recently at Ocean Grove’s Great Auditorium. The event was the premiere of the “Teachers of Monmouth County Student Showcase,” a concert series sponsored by Steinway & Sons.

      Gavin English, manager of Steinway Hall in Paramus, said he has inaugurated the new concert series to give young pianists the opportunity to play in a concert hall setting on a quality concert grand Steinway.

      Matthew Brower, Nick Chirumbolo, Jillian DeFazio, Meredith DeFazio, Jackie Feibus, Kimberly Feldman, Christian Grapel, Alyssa Laguerta, John Latona, Jason Leacock, Rebecca Lee, Emily Lu, Samuel Lu, Lucas Hurley McCabe, Jennifer Nguyen, Michelle Yen, and Angela Zhau performed piano solos with repertoire ranging from Chopin and Liszt to Billy Joel.

      Kevin Carillo sang Handel’s “Where’er You Walk,” accompanied by Matthew Brower on piano.

      Alish Erman and Brandon Millman performed a piano duet, and Jenny Sahee Kim, Elizabeth Przywara and Cristina Reis all performed original piano solos.

      The teachers whose students performed in the concert are Beth Chen, of Marlboro; Jason Crompton, of Freehold; Diane Dollack, of Fair Haven; Richard Hendrickson, of Freehold; Irene Lu, of Marlboro; Judith Meisels, of Deal Park; Lyndall Soden, of Englishtown; and Alan Wasserman, of Freehold.

      Tennent post office

      slates USPS.com Day

      USPS.com Day will be held at the Tennent post office, Route 522 at Tennent Road, Manalapan, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The staff of the post office will offer demonstrations, information, brochures and giveaways.       Marlboro resident to

      attend Boston conference

      Jason Kang, of Marlboro, has been selected to attend LeadAmerica’s 2005 Congressional Student Leadership Conference in Boston.

      The conference is a college-accredited invitational leadership program for academically talented high school students. Kang is a student at High Technology High School, Lincroft.

      In addition, he has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).

      Claes Nobel, senior member of the Noble Prize family, is the founder and chairman of NSHSS.
