Elmer D. Hankins Mr. Hankins, 79, of Freehold Township, died March 10 at his son’s home in Manalapan. Born in the Smithburg section of Freehold Township, he had lived there for most of his life. Prior to retiring 17 years ago, he was a truck driver for Suburban Propane, Howell, for more than 30 years. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he had served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Mr. Hankins was predeceased by his parents, Jessie Applegate Hankins and Elias Smith Hankins. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William D. and Karen Hankins of Manalapan; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Reed E. Young of Honolulu; and two grandsons, Douglas J. Hankins and Michael W. Koenigsfest. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Emma Skowrenski Mrs. Skowrenski, 71, of Freehold Township, died March 13 at home. Born in Freehold Township, she was a lifelong resident. Prior to retiring six years ago, she was a bookkeeper for the Monmouth County Vocational School, Freehold Township. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mrs. Skowrenski was predeceased by a brother, John Dashkavich. Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Paul Skowrenski; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul Skowrenski Jr. of Freehold Township, and Richard and Jill Skowrenski of Columbia, Conn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Paul Catalano of Lake Worth, Fla., and Nancy and Allen Keiser of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Florence Hall of Freehold Township; a brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law, George, Bertha and Agnes Skowrenski, all of Monroe, and Lois Dashkavich of Red Bank; and a granddaughter, Autumn Skowrenski. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
Angeline Sentimenti Monaci Mrs. Monaci, 89, of Eatontown, died March 14 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Union City, she resided in Eatontown the past 58 years. She was a school administrator for the Neptune City Board of Education for more than 25 years, retiring in 1985. She was a communicant of St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. She was an active member of the Shade Tree Commission, member of the board of directors of the Eatontown Public Library, and organized the first Brownie troop in Eatontown during the 1950s. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl A. Monaci in 1994; and two sisters, Irma Sentimenti Kovacs and Norma Sentimenti Schepisi. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Monaci Fahad of Colts Neck. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery Mausoleum, Oceanport. John J. Certa Mr. Certa, 79, of Manalapan, died March 14 at CareOne at East Brunswick nursing home. Born in Norristown, Pa., he had lived in Manhattan, N.Y., for 10 years before moving to Manalapan in 1964. After graduating from New York University School of Commerce, he worked at Irving Trust Co., New York City. From 1972-75, he served as the tax collector for Manalapan Township. Prior to retiring in 1991, he was an investigator for the N.J. Division of Taxation in Trenton. A U.S. Army Air Force veteran, he served during World War II as a tail gunner on B-17s and earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the EAME [Europe, Africa & Middle East] Theater Ribbon with six battle stars. Surviving are his wife, Helen; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Leela Certa of Richland, Wash.; a daughter, Catherine Certa of Eatontown; a brother, Anthony Certa of Phoenix; three sisters, Dorothy Skinner and Marie Szabara, both of Norristown, and Rose Ruttman of Lansdale, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Victoria Apostle of Manalapan; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Piscataway. Interment followed at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Freeman Manalapan–Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Carolyn Dailey Doller Ms. Doller, 47, of Hightstown, died March 15. Born in New Brunswick, she had lived in Englishtown before moving to Hightstown. Until two years ago, she was a school bus driver for the South Brunswick Board of Education. Ms. Doller was predeceased by her parents, MaryAnn (Pizio) and Foster E. Dailey. Surviving are three sisters, Susan Olsen and Debra Ciko, both of South River, and Tami Lynn Dailey of Browns Mills; and three nieces and two nephews. Services were private, with Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, in charge of arrangements.
Robert Bruce Myers Mr. Myers, 63, of Jackson, died March 16 at home. Born in Irvington, he had lived in Colts Neck for 28 years before moving to Jackson one year ago. Prior to retiring, he was an accountant for PSE&G, Newark, for 35 years, as well as a Realtor for Weichert, Realtors. A member of the Colts Neck Sports Foundation, Mr. Myers had been both a soccer and baseball coach in Colts Neck, and was also an avid fisherman. Surviving are his wife, Linda Czarniecki Myers; two sons, Scott A. Myers of Red Bank and Robert K. Myers of Gaithersburg, Md.; a daughter, Kimberly J. Crocker of Leonardo; his mother-in-law, Florence Czarniecki of Cherry Hill; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. Louise A. Baer Mrs. Baer, 85, of Matawan, died March 17 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Bayonne, she resided there before moving to Matawan in 1947. Mrs. Baer was a homemaker. She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry H. Baer, in 1996; and a daughter, Susan L. Baer, in 1999. Mrs. Baer is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Robert Baer-Arter of Grand Terrace, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric R. and Kim Baer of the Wickatunk section of Marlboro; a sister, Vera J. Best of Matawan; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Gethsemane Church, followed by interment at Franklin Memorial Park Cemetery, North Brunswick. Maureen A. Crosby Mrs. Crosby, 62, of Brick, died March 17 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. She was a parishioner of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, Brick. Mrs. Crosby was predeceased by a sister, Joan Somers. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Brian Handerhan, Thomas and Linda Handerhan, and Mark and Danielle Handerhan, all of Howell; seven grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral services were held at Colonia Funeral Home, Brick, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Dominic’s Church. Interment took place at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. Douglas D. Nelson Mr. Nelson, 72, of Ocean, died March 18 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Orange, he resided in Verona prior to moving to Ocean 30 years ago. He sold realty at various Brokers Realtors agencies. Prior to that, he was a printer at Scott Type Setting, Newark, for 18 years, retiring in 1972. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Oakhurst section of Ocean Township. He was predeceased by his mother, Florence Wood Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marion D’Addario Nelson; two daughters, Karen Bauer of Howell, and Christina De Respiris of Ocean; his father, Arthur Nelson of Burlington; a brother, Robert Nelson of Florida; a sister, Patricia Pacio of Berkley Heights; and three grandchildren. Burial was at Brig. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
