      Ralph Patrick Mazzeo Jr.

      Mr. Mazzeo, 66, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 2 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. A retired hairstylist and business owner in Old Bridge, he served on the Old Bridge Township Planning Board. His wife, Noreen, died in 1997. Surviving are two sons, James Mazzeo of Barnegat and Christopher Mazzeo of Manalapan; two daughters, Noreen Nugent and Marijo Burns, both of Old Bridge; a brother, Patrick Mazzeo of the Toms River section of Dover; a sister, Josephine Zoppi of Long Branch; and nine grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.

      Margaret M. Henahan

      Mrs. Henahan, 81, of Freehold Township, died Oct. 11 at Kensington Manor, Toms River. Born in Newark, she had lived in Manalapan and Montclair before moving to Freehold Township 17 years ago. Mrs. Henahan was a sales associate for Macy’s, East Brunswick, for 16 years before her retirement in 1985. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Henahan, in 1990. Surviving are two sons, Kevin J. Henahan, of Howell and Edward J. Henahan, of Brick; five daughters, Kathy Strycharz, of Ewing, Susan Halbing, of Colonia, Nancy Attalla, of Howell, Maura Duffy, of Brick and Linda Miller, of Westfield; a brother, William Post, of Bloomfield; two sisters, Rosalie Pelosi, of Chatham and Marilyn Kenna, of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; and 18 grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

      Janet T. McHugh

      Mrs. McHugh, 59, of Waretown, died Oct. 16 at home. Born in Queens, N.Y., she had lived in Palisades Park for 10 years and in Freehold Township for 18 years before moving to Waretown one year ago. She was a secretary for the American Air Plants Co., Tinton Falls, and had previously been a secretary for the Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. of New York, New York City. Surviving are her husband, George McHugh; two sons, Kevin and Brian; and three brothers, Robert, James and Kenneth Kramer. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, with Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, in charge of arrangements.       Orie Herbert Hammond Jr.

      Mr. Hammond, 75, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 16 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was an owner and trainer of harness racing horses at Freehold Raceway and other tracks for many years. His wife, Frances Hammond, died in 1994. Surviving are a son, Orie Hammond of Howell; a daughter, Katherine Ross of Jackson; a brother, Oscar Hammond of Jackson; a sister, Dorothy Dickhut of Jackson; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park, Franklin.

      Carol B. Smith

      Mrs. Smith, 71, of Freehold, died Oct. 17 at home. Born in San Pedro, Calif., she had resided in San Diego, San Francisco and Atlanta before moving to Freehold 35 years ago. She was a graduate of San Diego High School and San Diego State University, where she had belonged to the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She was also a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold. Surviving are her husband, John Smith; a son, Craig Smith, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Caryn Smith, of Phoenix; and two grandchildren, Brian Leo, of Brick and Deanna Leo, of Phoenix. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.       John “Jack” Bird

      Mr. Bird, 68, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Oct. 14 in JFK Medical Center, Edison. Surviving are his wife, Joan Guttadora Bird; a son, Michael Bird of the Toms River section of Dover; five daughters, Kathleen Bird, Kristy Bird, Patricia Rosenberg, all of Wake Forest, N.C., Mary Rippey of Freehold and Sharon Rappleyea of Sayreville; a sister, Patricia Trento of Bloomfield; and eight grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Memorial contributions may be made to South Amboy Elks Handicapped Children’s Fund, 601 Washington Ave., South Amboy, NJ 08879.

      Sarah “Jeanne” Faulhaber

      Mrs. Faulhaber, a lifelong resident of Freehold Township, died Oct. 16 in Tallahassee, Fla., after a brief illness. Born in New York City, she retired from the Grand Union Co. after 34 years in the meat department. She began her employment at the Freehold location, retiring from the Asbury Park store. She was a former member of the Elks Lodge 1454 Ladies Auxiliary, Freehold; a lifetime communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold; a member of the Howell Township Chapter of Deborah; and a volunteer at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Faulhaber was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas James Faulhaber, in 1986; a brother, Thomas Brewer; and a sister, Alice Moody. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Carol Faulhaber of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four daughters and a son-in-law, Florence and Charles Goff of Tallahassee, Catherine Womack of Pensacola, Fla., Mary Miraglia of Avon, and Sarah “Sally” Faulhaber-King of Bradley Beach; a sister, Marie Duhan of Great Valley, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
