Rental charge for books at county library unacceptable

While visiting the Monmouth County Library Headquarters [recently] in Manalapan, I was appalled to see that best sellers are now prominently displayed on a separate table and available on a daily rental basis only.

We already pay a library tax as part of our ever-soaring real estate tax bills. I do not want to rent books of any kind from my local library, best sellers or not. This practice is essentially double taxation and cannot be allowed to continue.

Some might argue that the fees are nominal. We all know that as time goes on these fees will grow and spread through other areas of the library system. This practice must be stopped before we lose sight of why the library system was created in the first place.
