Obituaries George "Sunny" Kavchak Jr. Mr. Kavchak, 64, of Enosburg, Vt., formerly of Monmouth and Ocean counties, died June 18 at home. Born and raised in Englishtown, he was a longtime resident of Freehold and had lived in Lakewood for 10 years before moving to Vermont to be a gentleman farmer. Prior to retiring in order to start his own business, he was employed for many years by Worthington Diagnostics, Freehold Township. In the early 1980s, he began Lincoln Heating & Cooling, located in Lakewood, and continued to do sidework for the company while in Vermont. A U.S. Army veteran, he also served in the New Jersey Army National Guard and was a former member of the East Freehold Fire Company, as well as the Lions Club, the Exchange Club and the Sunrise Optimist Club, all of Freehold. He was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Gene Schoen and Robert Swallick. Surviving are his parents, Catherine (née Quinlan) and George Kavchak Sr. of St. Albans, Vt.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tamara and Jim Conine of New Kingston, N.Y., Tracy and David Albrecht of Berlin, Md., and Lorelei and H. Scott Mount of Freehold; two sisters, Barbara Schoen of Milton, Vt., and Kathleen Swallick of St. Albans; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; his former wives, Patricia Smith of Freehold, also the mother of his daughters, and Prudence Helwig Kavchak of Enosburg; a nephew and his wife, Scott and Helen Schoen of Jackson; and longtime friend John Standowski (and his family) of Jackson. A memorial service was held at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, assisted with arrangements, while Spears Funeral Home, Enosburg, was in charge of arrangements in Vermont. Grace Lucile Connell Mrs. Connell, 92, of Freehold Township, died July 30 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Adrian, Mich., she had resided in Delray Beach, Fla., before moving to Freehold Township two years ago. A homemaker, she was predeceased in 1971 by her husband, Theron J. Connell. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Maria Connell of Freehold Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Constance O’Connell-Arnfield and Dr. Edwin Arnfield of Northport, Mich.; a brother, Aubrey Hayes of Michigan; a sister, Jean Howell of California; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment, which was private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Walter Robert Neidhardt Mr. Neidhardt, 93, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died July 21 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township in 1989. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he had served as an airplane recognition instructor in Stelton, Va. He was a graduate of Oswego High School, Oswego, N.Y., and earned a bachelor of science degree in 1934 from St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., through which he also received in 1948 a master’s degree in education. He was a member of St. Lawrence’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, as well as its football and track teams. A former teacher at Oswego High School, he then taught math and science in the Arlington school system in Poughkeepsie, where he was also an assistant coach for the football, track and cross-country teams. In the Arlington district, he organized the first adult education program, out of which grew "Club 60," the area’s first senior citizen organization. Mr. Neidhardt retired from the Arlington school system in 1975 as junior high school principal. While living in Poughkeepsie, he was an active member of the First Congregational Church and was involved as well in many civic affairs, serving on the board of several local organizations. He was instrumental in forming the Arlington Rotary Club, where he was a charter member and its fifth president. A Paul Harris fellow, he served as rotary district governor (District No. 721) from 1978-79 and also founded the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference, which he conducted for four years. Mr. Neidhardt served as the first secretary and second vice president of the Applewood Estates Residents Association and organized the Health and Wellness Committee, serving as its first chairman. In addition, he arranged for the continuing care residence centers to become a state organization, for which he was its first president. He was predeceased by his first wife, Theodora Dritsas Neidhardt in 1950, and his second wife, Hazel Whitehead Neidhardt, in 1998, as well as his siblings, Nelson, Blanche and Donald Neidhardt. Surviving are his wife, Florence Griffin Neidhardt, and her children, Nan of St. Petersburg, Fla., and James of Poughkeepsie; a daughter and son-in-law, Tedi and David Janksy of Sunbury, Pa.; two grandsons and their wives, including Gregory and Dulce Jansky of Little Silver; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at Applewood Estates. Burial took place at LaGrange Rural Cemetery, Lagrangeville, N.Y. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Bocim Mrs. Bocim, 79, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died July 28 at home. Born in Newark, she had lived in Freehold Township for the past 48 years. A graduate of William Paterson College (now University), Wayne, she earned a master’s degree in business education from Rider College (now University), Lawrenceville, and was a business teacher at Marlboro High School, where she also served as chairwoman of the business education department. A member of First Presbyterian Church, Freehold, where she served as an elder, she was a community volunteer in adult reading education who participated as well in school reading programs. Mrs. Bocim was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, William. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Thomas and Marcia Bocim of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Bocim and Jay Waldorf of Maryland; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. John P. McGough Mr. McGough, 67, of Freehold Township, died July 28 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived there before moving in 1964 to Freehold Township, where he was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church. A sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, he was a former coach for both the Freehold Township Little League and the Freehold Township Parks and Recreation Department. He was predeceased in 1968 by a son, John Patrick McGough. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Ann Marie McGough; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. James J. and Jacqueline McGough of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Thomas M. McGough of Howell, and William J. and Quan D. McGough of Freehold; four daughters and a son-in-law, Dr. Eileen McGough of Freehold, and Susan McGough, Donna M. McGough, and Dianne and Charles Famulare, all of Freehold Township; a brother, James A. McGough of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.; two sisters, Kathleen Grant of Huntington, Long Island, N.Y., and Virginia Victor of Scarsdale, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. C.H.T. Charles Joseph Radziewicz Mr. Radziewicz, 70, of Manalapan, died July 28 at Harborside Healthcare Center, Bridgewater, after a brief and mysterious neurological illness. Born in Port Carbon, Pa., he had lived in Carteret before moving to Manalapan 39 years ago. Prior to starting his own home-improvement business in Manalapan, he had worked for General Motors Corp., Linden, for 16 years. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Lacey Golf Association. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing, and was a fan of both the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. He was predeceased in 1999 by his wife of 43 years, Marie Cizauskas Radziewicz. Surviving are two sons, Charles "Ted" Radziewicz of Manalapan and James Radziewicz of Watertown, Mass.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Jodi Adelman of Branchburg, Chrissy and Greg Couch of Easton, Pa., Debbie and Robert Baliotti of Hamilton, and Sandy and Joe Rapoza of Englishtown; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Albert Radziewicz of Newark, Del., and Joseph and Alice Radziewicz of the Morganville section of Marlboro; three sisters, Katherine Drazenovich and Barbara Smilko, of Pottsville, Pa., and Joan Pretti of New Philadelphia, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, to whom he was "Pop-Pop"; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. Interment was private, with Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, in charge of arrangements. George Alacs Mr. Alacs, 66, of Howell died July 30 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Borcs, Hungary, he had resided in Old Bridge before moving to Howell 10 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1997, he was employed for 10 years as a material handler for W.W. Grainger Inc., Cranbury, and had previously worked for Herman Miller Inc., also in Cranbury, and the Reynolds Metals Co., Carteret. Surviving are his wife, Mary Costello Alacs; two sons, George P. Alacs of South Amboy and David Alacs of Howell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Brigitte and Russell Pearce of South Amboy and Melissa Alacs of Howell; a brother and three sisters, all of Hungary; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville, followed by burial at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet. Martin L. Manser Mr. Manser, 68, of Howell, died July 30 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Palenville, N.Y., he had lived in Millstone for 25 years before moving to Howell five years ago. He was a self-employed carpenter. Surviving are a niece, Connie Manser of New York; and four nephews, Howard Manser of Florida, Richard (and Michele) Nichols of Jackson, and Charles Manser and Robert (and Rhonda) Nichols, of Howell. A funeral service was held at C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, with Chaplain Keith Long officiating. Interment followed at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Leonard Sebold Mr. Sebold, 83, of Manchester, died July 17 at home. Born in Poland, he was raised in New York City and had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 19 years before moving to Manchester 12 years ago. He was the night manager at Katz’s Delicatessen, New York City, for 15 years, retiring in 1983. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Congregation B’nai Israel, Toms River. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Miriam Sebold; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Sharon Sebold of Aberdeen, and Peter and Barbara Sebold of Upper St. Clair, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Alan Feder of Manalapan; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Congregation B’nai Israel, followed by interment at B’nai Israel Cemetery, Toms River. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Margaret R. Enrico Mrs. Enrico, 77, of Cape Coral, Fla., died July 6 at Southwestern Regional Hospital, Fort Meyers, Fla. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived there and in Marlboro before moving to Florida 17 years ago. A homemaker, she is survived by her husband, Fred Enrico; a son, Joseph Enrico of Reston, Va.; a daughter, Margaret Enrico-Gennaro of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Louis and William DeMeo, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Roberta Ward of Cincinnati and Frances Ianni of Marlboro; and five grandchildren. Cremation was private in Florida. A memorial service was held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge. Harold William Robinson Mr. Robinson, 91, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died July 25 at Applewood Estates Health Care Center, Freehold Township. Born in England, he had resided in Union for more than 40 years before moving to Freehold Township in 1990. A 1939 graduate of Columbia University, New York City, he was a chemist who worked for Engelhard Minerals & Chemicals Corp., Newark, for 38 years, retiring in 1978. He was a former member of Battle Hill Community Moravian Church, Union, and a member of the American Institute of Chemists and the American Chemical Society. Surviving are his wife, Aileen (Davison) Robinson; and a daughter and son-in-law, June and James Nall of New York City. Funeral services were held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by burial at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. |
