Assemblymen believe shared services can lead to savings for towns

In light of the growing property tax burden that New Jersey residents are facing, we would like to urge municipalities in the 12th District to take full advantage of the Depart-ment of Community Affairs Sharing Available Resources Efficiently (SHARE) program.

Through the SHARE program, municipalities have access to grant money for projects that involve the study or implementation of regional service agreements.

The SHARE program works with municipalities to help streamline government operations, reducing municipal costs and property taxes.

Municipalities, counties and fire or other districts are eligible for SHARE grants. SHARE is also available to nonprofit organizations that coordinate shared services in particular regions.

The program can assist in three different ways: implementation, feasibility studies and regional coordination grants.

Duplicating the same services in every New Jersey municipality wastes the taxpayers’ money.

We believe strongly that New Jersey municipalities must share services in all possible areas. It reduces costs, helps towns to deliver services in a more efficient manner, and provides crucial property tax relief.

Please work with the SHARE program to determine which services in your community could be shared with other municipalities. If there is any way we can help you to accomplish this goal, or to obtain a packet of information on the SHARE program, please feel free to contact our office at (732) 741-5599. To reach the Depart-ment of Community Affairs, call (609) 292-7842.
