Archaeology camp offered at Allen House

      Archaeology camp
      offered at Allen House

The Monmouth County Historical Association is again offering its archaeology summer camp at Allen House in Shrewsbury. Three sessions will be offered, each a week long, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Youngsters between the ages of 12 and 15 may choose the week of July 12-16, July 19-23 or July 26-30.

The Allen House was the site of a tavern in the 18th century, and participants will learn about local history and archaeology by helping to excavate the site. They will be supervised by three staff members, one of whom is an archaeologist with several years of field experience.

The cost is $225 per person per week and includes a camp T-shirt, snacks, water and the use of equipment. Each session is limited to 10 participants. Those wishing more hands-on experience are invited to attend more than one session.

For more information, call Megan Springate or Carole Smith at the Monmouth County Historical Association, (732) 462-1466. Details on the camp are also available at www.monmouthhistory.org.
