Sidney Schneier
Mr. Schneier, 85, of the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan, died March 9 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, he had resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 50 years before moving to Manalapan. He served in the Air Corps during World War II and was a member of Jewish War Veterans. He was also a member of the CentraState Auxiliary and Senior Citizen II, as well as a lifetime member of the Deborah Hospital Foundation. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ruth Schneier; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen Judith and James Frederick Groelinger of Mahwah; a sister, Marilyn Weiss of Fort Lee; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Feodosia Dukmasow Mrs. Dukmasow, 92, of Freehold died March 14 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in the Ukraine, she came to the United States in 1951 and settled in Springfield, Vt. She had lived in Meriden, Conn., and Paterson before moving to Freehold in 1986. Prior to retiring in 1976, she was a finisher for Queenie Togs, Paterson. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, Jackson, and a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, Newark. She was predeceased in 1969 by her husband, Feodor. Surviving are a son, Feodor "Victor" Jr. of Saddle River; a daughter, Nadja Schmidt of Freehold; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, followed by interment at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Jackson. C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements. John Mutch Mr. Mutch, 76, of Freehold Township died March 24 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Passaic, he had lived in Middletown Township before moving to Freehold Township 12 years ago. He was a graduate of Montclair High School, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was an optical engineer for the David Sarnoff Research Center, Princeton. He was predeceased by two sisters, Joan Feuer and Ivah Garner. Surviving are his wife, Lois R. Picco-Mutch; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William A. Mutch of Little Silver, and John and Teresa Mutch of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan M. and Christopher Phinney of Hubbardston, Mass.; two stepchildren, Linda J. Glide and Robert J. Suter; a brother, William C. Mutch of Slaterville, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Colts Neck. Upper Ferry Road, Trenton 08628. Elizabeth L. Burrows Mrs. Burrows, 92, of Englishtown died March 18 at her son’s residence in Pompano Beach, Fla. Born in Perrineville, she had resided in Englishtown for 65 years. She was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher at the Englishtown Presbyterian Church for many years. She had also worked as a waitress at the Roger Smith Hotel, New Brunswick, and put herself through business school. After graduation, she was employed for several years as a secretary for Chamber and Barclay, Cranbury. She was predeceased in 1981 by her husband, Harold, and in 1992 by a grandson, Billy Pittman Jr. Surviving are a son, Harold R. Jr. of Englishtown; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Billy Pittman Sr. of Riverside; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Fernwood Cemetery, Jamesburg. Barbara L. Cousins Mrs. Cousins, of Farmingdale, died March 19 at her brother’s residence in Farmingdale. Born in Neptune, she was a lifelong resident of Farmingdale. She was a management technician for the state of New Jersey, Department of Transportation, Ewing, for 20 years before becoming disabled a year ago. For many years, she was also a commercial model. Mrs. Cousins was a member of the Squankum United Methodist Church, Howell. She was a black belt, as well as East Coast Judo Champion. Surviving are a son, John Seemann of Ocean Grove; a brother, Ira Matthews Jr. of Farmingdale; two companions, Bruce Strickland of Ewing and Dorothy Peterson of Ewing; and many nieces and nephews. Kolakowski Mr. Kolakowski, 84, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died March 23 at home. Born in Jersey City, he had lived there before moving to Union City, where he had resided until 1963 before moving to Aberdeen. He had lived in South Carolina since 1985 and moved to Morganville six months ago. A vehicle Army mechanic who served during World War II, he worked as a stockkeeper for Western Electric for 42 years prior to retiring in 1981. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Victoria Kolakowski; a son, Dennis Kolakowski of Phillipsburg; a daughter, Donna Mannes of Howell; two sisters, Victoria Mikulak of Keansburg and Dorothy Bachalski of Florida; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Stanley J. Sarafin Mr. Sarafin, 77, of Manalapan died March 23 at New York University Hospital. Born in Stamford, Conn., he had resided in Northfield before moving to Manalapan 38 years ago. A World War II Air Force veteran, he had worked as a certified public accountant for Pannell Kerr Forster, New York City, prior to retiring in 1992. Surviving are his wife, Catherine; a son, John P. of Manalapan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and David Hetherington of Jamesburg, and Mary and Eric Schmidlin of Freehold; a brother, Leo Sarafin of Norwalk, Conn.; a sister, Victoria of Utah; and three grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Barbara A. Byrnes O’Connell Mrs. O’Connell, 65, of Manalapan died March 24 at home. Born in Bayonne, she had lived in South Amboy before moving to Manalapan one year ago. Prior to retiring in 2002, she was employed for 15 years as a judicial secretary for Judge Marina Corodemus in New Brunswick. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy. Mrs. O’Connell was predeceased by three brothers and a sister, John, Joseph and Thomas Byrnes, and Margaret Heflin. Surviving are a son, John F. O’Connell of South Amboy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharyn A. and Edward Conlon of Sayreville, and Tara M. and Thomas Geant of Manalapan; her former husband, James W. O’Connell of Onancock, Va.; a brother, Eugene Byrnes of Montvale; two sisters, Dolores Sweetsir of Claremont, N.H., and Anna Hackett of Montgomery, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.
