4-H members honored for their efforts

The 4-H Youth Development Program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Monmouth County held its annual Members Recognition Night recently at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Manalapan. There were 357 members recognized for their achievements in citizenship, leadership, public presentation and record keeping. To receive one of these awards, a 4-H member must be nominated by his or her 4-H Club leader. Members can be in grades one through three.

Among club members from the local area, Matthew Iannelli, 10, of Freehold, was awarded the Citizenship and Leadership awards. Matthew is a member of the Happy Hands 4-H Club. The Citizenship award is presented to members who have demonstrated social responsibility, contributed to community development, and acquired life skills that are essential for an individual to become an active and responsible citizen. The Leadership award is given to members who have participated in program planning, development and implementation, and helped to recruit new members and leaders.
