Sports Shorts Howell’s Stephanie Carter, a freshman, shared the shutout in goal with teammate Gabby Ditchey when Rowan University’s women’s soccer team beat New Jersey City University, 11-0. It was the seventh shutout of the season for the Profs. Manalapan’s Jessica Meloro, a junior defensive back, netted one of the goals for Rowan, which is 12-4-1 on the season. The Profs are 4-3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The USA Track and Field National Masters 5K Cross Country Championship will be held at Holmdel Park on Nov. 23. The top Masters runners in the country will run the same 5K course that the high schools compete on. The high school course records are 15:16 for the boys, set by Jason DiJoseph, and 17:35 for the girls, set by Janet Smith. Age groups are Men: 40-49, 50-59 and 60 & over, and Women: 40 & over. In addition, there will be an Open 5K Alumni Shoot-out for three-runner teams from the same high school. The day begins at 10 a.m. with the alumni race, followed at 10:30 by the Men 60 & over division; Women 40 & over, 11:15; Men 50-59, 12 p.m.; and Men 40-49, 12:35 p.m. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each Masters race.
