Freehold teen to take part in forum

Christopher Hanson of Freehold has been selected to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law (NYLF/LAW) from Oct. 7-12 in Washington, D.C. Selected of the basis of academic achievement and an interest in law and justice, Hanson will join more than 350 outstanding high school juniors and seniors from across the United States at the Forum on Law.

"Each day, our legal system plays a vital role in the way our country runs," said Donna Snyder, executive director of NYLF. "By participating in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law, Hanson will gain a more thorough understanding of how laws work, what goes into legal prosecution or defense, and the vast array of opportunities within this profession. By interacting with partners at law firms, criminal defense attorneys and prosecutors, as well as professors and other experts of the legal profession, students begin shaping the future right here."

The curriculum for NYLF/LAW is based on actual events, which allows its participants to learn from the examples set by attorneys of law and court officials from municipal court to the U.S. Supreme Court. Throughout the forum, students will examine how court cases often change the legal system.

In the past, NYLF/LAW has visited several law firms and area courthouses, including the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Superior Court and various county circuit courts. The program has also included visits to some of the nation’s most prestigious law schools, including University of Maryland School of Law, Washington College of Law at American University, and Howard University School of Law.

NYLF is a nonprofit, educational organization whose goal is to empower young people to make well-informed career choices.
