      Gloria Riepe
      Obituaries Gloria Riepe

      Mrs. Riepe, 74, of Manalapan died Sept. 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, she lived there most of her life before moving to the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan two years ago. Mrs. Riepe was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, and a former communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City. She was a member of the Christian Neighbors of Covered Bridge. Mrs. Riepe is survived by her husband, William; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Joanne Riepe of Howell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Veronica and Ted Daniels, and Suzanne and Richard Weisman, all of Manalapan; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Church, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

      Frank Mastromarino

      Mr. Mastromarino, 79, of Englishtown died Sept. 8 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived there until moving to Englishtown 38 years ago. Mr. Mastromarino was a truck driver for The Racing Form in Hightstown before retiring in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theater of Operations and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post 54, Freehold. Mr. Mastromarino is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Frank Jr. of Englishtown; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ed Zachmann of Freehold; two brothers, Vito of Barnegat and John of Staten Island, N.Y.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and Harold Sherman of Massapequa, N.Y., and Lily Gouvernel of Jackson; two grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

      Angelo M. Valentino

      Mr. Valentino, 82, of Long Branch died Sept. 8 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he relocated to Long Branch in 1922. Mr. Valentino co-owned and operated a business with his family, which began in 1910 and operated for almost nine decades. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received seven decorations and citations as a member of the 89th Infantry Division of the Third Army. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and choir. His memberships included the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 742, the Amerigo Vespucci Society, the Italian American Memorial Association, and the American Legion, Long Branch. He was also an officer and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2795, Long Branch, and served as an officer and past president of the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 399, Long Branch. He and his brother founded a band in the 1930s and won a gold medal at the 1939 World’s Fair. He played and enjoyed music with his friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Ossino Valentino; and two brothers, Salvatore and Frank Valentino. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph T. and Carole Valentino of Oceanport, and Alfred J. and Anne Valentino of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie Ann and Edward J. Johnson of Howell; two brothers, Louis and Charles Valentino, both Long Branch; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Long Branch, followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.

      William Thompson

      Mr. Thompson, 50, of Manalapan died Sept. 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Neptune, he was a lifelong resident of Manalapan. He was the owner of G.E. Thompson & Son Inc. in Manalapan and a member of Freehold Elks Lodge No. 1454. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a brother, George Thompson of Freehold; and one stepsister. Graveside services were held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan, with funeral arrange­ments under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.

      Keith Justin Lackey II

      Mr. Lackey, 25, of Howell died Sept. 12 at home. He was born in Lakewood and had lived in the Freehold area all his life. He was a 1996 graduate of Freehold Township High School. Surviving are his father, Keith J. Lackey Sr. of Howell Township; his mother, Rene Ellerman of Free­hold Township; his brother and sister, Dondre Lackey and Cassiana Ellerman, both of Free­hold Township; his paternal grandfather, John K. Lackey of Freehold Township; his maternal grandmother, Violette Waple; six uncles, Kevin and Kenneth Lackey, and Richard, An­drew, Ronald and Peter Ellerman; and two aunts, Maura Leahey and Odette Waplehurst. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memo­rial Home, Freehold.

      Eva T. Kowalski

      Mrs. Kowalski, 87, of Dover Township died Sept. 13 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Marlboro before moving to Dover Township seven years ago. A cafeteria worker at Manalapan High School before retiring in 1986, Mrs. Kowalski was also a volunteer at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her hus­band, Valentine Kowalski, in 1978. Surviving are three daughters, Irene Kolbasowski of Florida, Valerie Thompson of Oxnard, Calif., and Theresa Herring of Ocean; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home was in charge of arrange­ments.       Ronald P. Wogas

      Mr. Wogas, 64, of Freehold died Sept. 15 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Staten Island, N.Y., and for the past 20 years lived in Manalapan and Freehold. Before his retirement 22 years ago, he was a New York City police officer with the 62nd Precinct in Brooklyn for 20 years. A member of the New York City Policeman’s Benevolent Association, Ticket Sellers Union Local 751, for 15 years, Mr. Wogas was also a member of the New York City Emerald Society. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Linda Rivers Wogas; his mother, Christina Condon Deane; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Billy Matlock of Jackson, and Lisa Wogas and Shawn Kiernan of Freehold; a son, Christopher Wogas of Long Island, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Kathleen Wogas of Staten Island; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Chip Jorgensen of Manalapan; three granddaughters; three stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Lakewood. Cremation was private, with D’Elia Funeral Home, Lakewood, in charge of arrangements.       Leila Murphy Herbein

      Mrs. Herbein, 88, of Farmingdale died Sept. 15 at Shorrock Gardens, Brick. Born in Farmingdale, she lived in Chatham before moving to Birdsboro, Pa., 52 years ago. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale, she was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A homemaker, Mrs. Herbein attended Mount Ida College in Connecticut. Her father, Edgar O. Murphy, served for more than 44 years, making his term the longest in the history of Farmingdale. Predeceased by her first husband, John F. Burrowes, and her second husband, John S. Herbein, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert D. Burrowes of Seattle, Wash., and Norman F. and Dorothy Burrowes of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Victoria "Vicki" and Joseph Slaton of Normandy Beach, and Lora Burrows of Billings, Mont.; two stepsons, John G. Herbein of Johnstown, Pa., and William W. Herbein of Birdsboro; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held at C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia, with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Richards officiating, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

      Tillie B. "Toby" Grant

      Mrs. Grant, of Covered Bridge, Manalapan, formerly of the Bronx, N.Y., died Sept. 18. She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Brown and Pamela Grant; grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10021. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels was in charge of arrangements.

      John DiTota

      Mr. DiTota, 85, of Marlboro died Sept. 3 at home. Born in Manhattan, he lived in Brook­lyn before moving to Marlboro 12 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church in Marlboro. A World War II Army veteran, Mr. DiTota was a New York City sanitation worker before retiring in 1976. He was predeceased by a son, Robert. He is sur­vived by his wife, Rose. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Gabriel’s Church, Marlboro, followed by interment at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel.

      Delbert L. Aeling

      Mr. Aeling, 63, of Howell died Sept. 18 at home. Born in Alliance, Ohio, he lived in Howell for the past 35 years. Mr. Aeling was employed for 29 years as a loader for the New Jersey Concrete Pipe Co., Farmingdale. Predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Otha Aeling, he is survived by his wife, Janet Beams Aeling; a son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Sue Aeling of Toms River; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Debra and Raymon Pressburger of Manahawkin, Cindy and Raymond Shea of Howell, Charlene and Mick Chelednik of Toms River, Janette Kopsic of Brick, and Kimberly Aeling, at home; a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Helen Aeling of Ohio; a sister, Shirley Augustine, also of Ohio; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Ardena Baptist Church, Howell, with the Rev. Harvey P. Kelley officiating. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

      Alice Mary Tamburello

      Mrs. Tamburello, 74, of Manalapan died Sept. 19 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Manalapan the past 42 yeas. She was a practicing registered nurse and director of nurses at Pine Brook Nursing Home, Man­alapan, retiring in 1981. She was a communi­cant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. She was predeceased by her hus­band of 46 years, Joseph Tamburello in 2001; two brothers, John Barry and Henry Barry; and a sister, Madeline Barry. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Debbie Tamburello of Englishtown, and Joseph and Patricia Tamburello Jr. of Matawan; three sisters, Chris Leventhal, Mazie McMullan and Mary Ficik; her brother, Cornelius Barry; two grandchildren; and sev­eral nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. Interment was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank 07701-9978. Arrangements were by Freeman Man­alapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.

      Walter Nedza

      Mr. Nedza, 79, of Manalapan died Sept. 19 at home. Born in Poland, he resided in Manalapan since 1958. A communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church in Englishtown, he was a foreman for the Monmouth County Bridge Department for 18 years before his retirement in 1989. Mr. Nedza is survived by his wife, Wanda; a son, Charles, at home; six daughters, Christine Bradbury of Englishtown, Donna Hermanski of Manalapan, Theresa Fetty of Port Orange, Fla., Lilly Jolly of Ortley Beach, Sophie Vogel of South River and Irene Vitrano of Norfolk, Va.; three brothers, Frank, Fred and Wojteh Nedza, all of Poland; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

      Beatrice "Bea" Siegel

      Mrs. Siegel, 93, of Englishtown, died Sept. 23 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Newark, she lived in Perth Amboy and Freehold before moving to English­town two years ago. For many years, she was a senior salesperson for the Paramount Shop, Perth Amboy, and she later managed the Carvel of Freehold ice cream store, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her hus­band, Albert M. Siegel, who died in 1971. Sur­viving are a son, Harvey Siegel of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Muriel Hersh, of Marlboro; a brother, Seymour Spector of Edison; a sister, Ann Hirschorn of Freehold; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with Rabbi Kenneth Greene officiat­ing. Interment followed at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
