VERA McGROGAN, 76, of Union Beach died Dec. 10 at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, Browns Mills. Born in Hoboken, she resided there until moving to Union Beach 58 years ago. Mrs. McGrogan was a seamstress at Kavlon, Wall Township, retiring in 1991. From 1964 to 1985, she was the owner and operator of McGrogan & Sons Exxon, Union Beach. Mrs. McGrogan was predeceased by her husband, James J. McGrogan Sr., in 1985; and her infant daughter, Jean McGrogan, in 1958. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James J. and Kathy McGrogan Jr., and Sal and Judy McGrogan, all Union Beach; her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Michael Glassford of Keansburg; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Agnes Gallopo of Union Beach, and Mary and Don Shank of Bradenton, Fla.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, the Rev. Salvatore Livigni of Baltimore, Michael and Ilene Livigni of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Rocco and Beatrice Morea of Freehold; four grandchildren; 12 nieces and nephews; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Memorial donations may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, 200 Trenton Road, Browns Mills 08015. JOSEPH JAMES FLANAGAN, 62, of Carolina Shores, N.C., died Dec. 12 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Manalapan before moving to Carolina Shores five years ago. Mr. Flanagan was a salesman for Park Surgical, Brooklyn, before his retirement. He was the current owner of Flanagan’s Pub, Little River, N.C. He was a former communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Prince of Peace Council No. 5903, Englishtown; a member of the Elks Lodge in North Carolina; and a former member of the Elks Lodge of Old Bridge. Mr. Flanagan is survived by his wife, Mary Olsen Flanagan; two daughters, Anne Flanagan and Eileen Campbell, both of Manalapan; a brother, Bernard of Morristown; and two grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. JOSEPH CARRETTA, 78, of Manalapan died Dec. 13 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Manalapan 12 years ago. Mr. Carretta was a bridge painter for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dombroski Post No. 24, Brooklyn. Mr. Carretta was predeceased by three brothers, Philip, Thomas and Charles; a sister, Sadie Curcio; and a grandson, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Amelia; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Robin of Staten Island, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and William Shanahan, and Janet and Chuck Avella, both of Manalapan; a brother, Nicholas of Brooklyn; two sisters, Millie Formica of Brooklyn and Maria DeSantis of Babylon, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. LOIS MEYER, 70, of Toms River died Dec. 13 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Mrs. Meyer moved from Bogota to Toms River 20 years ago. She was an assistant office manager for the Holiday City West Homeowners Association, Toms River, for the past 8 years. She was a member of the Maguire Air Force Base Association, Chapter 360. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Meyer Sr. Mrs. Meyer is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward Jr. and Anna of Freehold; a sister, Dorothy Sevcik of Goshen, N.Y.; a brother, Luther Seebeck of Arizona; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. ANNA SALUKA STEPIKURA, 89, of Englishtown died Dec. 7 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in South River, she lived in New York before moving to Englishtown 28 years ago. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, South River. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1989; and a grandson, Joseph Abreu. She is survived by a son, John Jr., and a daughter, Lydia Cammarata, both of Englishtown; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Saints Peter and Paul Church, followed by burial in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, South River. RUSSELL CARTER DUNN, 73, of Martinez, Ga. died Dec. 9 at Eisenhower Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga. Born in Chatham, Va., he had been a resident of Martinez since 1978. Mr. Dunn was retired from the U.S. Army, where he was a sergeant major after 30 years of service, including tours of Korea and Vietnam. He was a life member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife, Carmela Carotenuto Dunn, originally of Freehold; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Teresa and Anthony Rinderer of Newport News, Va., Cindy Lee Dunn of Silver Spring, Md., and Patricia and Michael Francesconi of Stafford, Va.; and five grandchildren. Interment with full military honors was held at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. STEFANIA MAMCZUR ANTONISZYN, 74, of South River died Nov. 30 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Antoniszyn; two daughters, Halina Klaczany of Old Bridge and Teresa Ciano of Manalapan; two sons, Adam Antoniszyn and Michael Antoniszyn, both of Old Bridge; two sisters, Zenobia Schaeffler and Emilia Szajdecki, both of Edison; and six grandchildren. A service was held at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. JOHN V. MASCONE, 70, of Freehold Township, died Nov. 16 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Freehold Township for the past 30 years. He was a sales manager for Eveready Battery Co., New York City, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1952 to 1956. He was vice chairman of the Freehold Township Planning Board and chairman of the Freehold Township Environmental Commission. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, and a member of the Freehold Township Republican Club and the Optimist Club of Freehold. He was a former commissioner of the Freehold Township Little League and a former member of the Freehold Township Transportation Committee and the Freehold Industrial Committee. He was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School, Brooklyn, and received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Maryland. He was predeceased by a sister, Elaine A. Mascone. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Terry Ryan Mascone; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Tara Mascone of Irvington, N.Y., and Michael and Tory Mascone of Red Bank; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tim O’Hara of Ocean Township; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Robert Bellarmine Church Building Fund, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold 07728. ANGELO DITRE, 63, of Jackson died Dec. 7 at home. Born in Levittown, Long Island, N.Y., he lived in Staten Island, N.Y., for 25 years before moving to Jackson two years ago. He was a bus driver for Dimino Bus Co. in Brooklyn, N.Y., before retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church, Jackson. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 168, Brooklyn. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen; a brother, John; and a sister, Caroline Rogers. Surviving are two sons, Thomas of Freehold, and Angelo of Staten Island, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and John Rago of Freehold, and Denise and John Pasqualichio of Jackson; a brother, Joseph of Staten Island; a sister, Eleanor Ortiz of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. A Mass was held at St. Aloysius Church, Jackson. Interment was in St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro. |
