Battleground Arts Center’s season kicks off with ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ Battleground Arts Center, Freehold, will begin its 2002-2003 season on Oct. 20 with Youth Stages’ production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe from the novel by C.S. Lewis. In this adaptation of the classic book, all the roles will be played by Joseph Rizzolo and Laurie A. Hardy, with some audience participation. This theater-in-the-round interpretation is directed by Pamela Hoffman. There will be two performances, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., at Freehold Intermediate School, 280 Park Ave. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. For reservations, call (732) 462-8811. Other presentations in the new season include the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, a troupe of musicians, dancers and singers performing traditional Eastern European music, Oct. 27; The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Nov. 10; Winter Wonderland, a musical inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland Through the Looking Glass, Dec. 8; The Emperor’s New Clothes, a musical adaptation, Jan. 12; Anansi, Spiderman of Africa, a selection of African folk tales performed by the Crabgrass Puppet Theatre, Feb. 2; "The Irish Minstrel," Richard Stillman, March 16; and "Goowin’s Balloowins," featuring stories, props and costumes by balloon artist Allynn Gooen, April 13. Show times are 2 and 4 p.m. at Freehold Intermediate School, except the Oct. 27 performance of the Tamburitzans, which will have only a 2 p.m. performance at a location still to be determined. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door for all shows except for the Tamburitzans’ show. Tickets to that show are $22. |
