Majewski, Bergmann shining in NY-Penn League

Rutgers University stars Val Majewski and Jason Bergmann have gotten their professional baseball careers off to a great start. They are both playing in the New York-Penn League.

Majewski signed with the Baltimore Orioles and is playing for the Aberdeen Ironbirds, where he picked up where he left off at Rutgers, hitting for power and average. The rookie outfielder is batting .320 for the Ironbirds, with 24 hits in his 75 at bats. Of his 24 hits, nine have gone for extra bases hits. He has slugged four doubles, four triples and a home run. He has 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Bergmann was signed by the Montreal Expos and is playing for the Vermont Expos. The hard-throwing right hander ranked 10th in the NY-Penn League in earned run average at 2.70. He has made 11 starts and is 5-3. The wins are the most in the ball club. Teams are batting just .194 off Bergmann. He has had 45 strikeouts in 56.2 innings of work.
