      Park system sponsoring trip to Shea Stadium
           The Monmouth County Park System will sponsor a bus trip to the Mets vs. Kansas City Royals game at Shea Stadium on June 23. The bus will leave at 10 a.m. from Thompson Park, Lincroft. The cost is $50 per person and includes game ticket and round-trip transportation. Preregistration is required.

      MARLBORO — The sixth-grade pupils at the AsherGarden honors 9/11 victims Holmes Elementary School capped off a day of patriotic displays by dedicating a garden in memory of the victims of Sept. 11.
           Prior to the dedication of the garden at the June 12 event, throngs of red-, white- and blue-clad youngsters assembled in their gymnasium, channeling their talents several ways to say "God Bless America." Some sang, others read patriotic essays. One group of pupils even wrote a rap song that summarized every president from George Washington to George W. Bush.

      Fireworks and more in Freehold on July Fourth
           The borough of Freehold will hold its annual Independence Day celebration from 5-10 p.m. July 4 at Freehold Raceway. Rain date is July 5. The event will feature food, live music, entertainment, rides and games for children, and a fireworks finale. Admission is free. Entertainment will be provided by Dick Young, who will entertain on stilts with his juggling and magic acts; Frank Watson and the Highlanders will play patriotic favorites on the bagpipes; and the Karwin Patrix Orchestra will provide accompaniment to the fireworks display planned by Serpico Fireworks.

      Cecilian Music Club awards scholarships
           The Cecilian Music Club awarded its annual $1,500 college scholarship to Jessica Cooper of Freehold Borough High School and Gloria Vasconcellos of Freehold Township High School. Cooper, a singer, plans to attend the University of Hartford in Connecticut. Vasconcellos is a harpist and will attend Peabody/Johns Hopkins in Maryland. The Cecilian Music Club is an organization of teachers, performers and music lovers that seeks to promote the study and performance of classical music.
