      BENNETT "BUD" YERVES SR., 73, of Highlands died Jan. 18 at home. Born in New York City, he lived in the Elberon section of Long Branch prior to moving to Highlands 15 years ago. He was a building inspector for the township of Middletown for 13 years, retiring in 1999. Prior to that, he was vice president of Thompson Industries, Eatontown and Arizona. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Claire Yerves, in 1997; and his son, Dennis Yerves Sr., in 1992. He is survived by six sons and three daughters-in-law, Tom Yerves of Elberon, Gerry and Debbie Yerves of Wall, Tim and Cindy Yerves of Highlands, Kevin Yerves of Highlands, Mick Yerves of Sea Bright, and Buddy and Rhonda Yerves of Freehold; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathleen Yerves of Highlands, and Peggy and John Verange of the Navesink section of Middletown; 19 grand-children; and one great-grandchild. Burial was at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown.

      ROBERT C. ROSS SR., 75, of Manalapan died Jan. 10 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived there before moving to Manalapan 34 years ago. He was employed by the New York City Department of Sanitation in Manhattan for 42 years before retiring as director of personnel in 1989. He was a U.S .Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Carol; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. Jr. and Cindy Ross of the Belford section of Middletown; three daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Ross and Christine Ross, both of Highlands, and Barbara and Steve Kovelesky of Middletown; and two grandchildren. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank 07701-9978.

      RUTH M. "DOLLY" KOHLMANN, 81, of Freehold Township died Jan. 12 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she had lived in the West Brighton sec-tion of Staten Island before moving to Freehold Township 15 years ago. She was the daughter of Olaf Myhre, who was the founding member of the Salem Evangelical Free Church, Staten Island. She is survived by her husband, John D.; three sons, Dave and Roger, both of Staten Island; and Russell of Manalapan; a brother, Olaf Myhre Jr. of Oregon; two sisters, Florence DeCasto and Grace Bouchard, both of Florida; and seven grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island.

      MARIO R. CARUSO, 78, of Marlboro, died Jan. 15 at CentraState Medial Center, Freehold Township. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Union for 30 years before moving to Marlboro in 1994. Mr. Caruso was a teacher for the Elizabeth pub-lic school system for 31 years before retiring in 1995. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro; a member of the Knights of Columbus of Union; St. Thomas More Leisure Club; Marlboro Greens Men's Club; and the China Burma India Veterans Association. Mr. Caruso was predeceased by a brother, Edmund, who died in 1945. He is sur-vived by his wife, Virginia (nee Custode); a son and daughter-in-law, Edmund and Rita Caruso of Branchburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marisa Caruso of Union, and Gina and Bill Colacchio of Manalapan; a brother, Patrick Caruso of Verona; a sister, Angela Provini of Union Beach; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Gabriel's Church, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.

      NATALIE CONSTANCE DUSENBERRY ZITO, 96, of Hazlet died Jan. 15 at Madison Center, Matawan. Born in New York City, she lived in the Bronx, prior to moving to Ha-zlet in 1970. She was a homemaker as well as an avid quilter. She was prede-ceased by her husband, Alfred E. Zito. She is survived by her daughter, Doris Leah Granger of Marlboro Township; her sister, Elizabeth Ada Nixon of Millerton, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Laurel MacDowell, Lois Granger-Streepy and Robert Henry Granger III. Funeral services were held at the funeral home and were officiated by the pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Freehold. Burial was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.

      LOUIS J. FASANO, 77, of Middletown died Jan. 19 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Union Beach for 27 years prior to moving to Middletown seven years ago. He was a warehouseman for Elk Transportation, Jersey City, for 21 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. His memberships included Teamsters Local No. 807, Long Island City, N.Y., and the Knights of Columbus, N.Y. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn C. Sloan Fasano, in 2000. He is survived by three sons, John J. Fasano of Austin, Texas; Mark L. Fasano of Union Beach; and Paul G. Fasano of Middletown; two daughters, Carol Ann Monte of Freehold, and Kathryn Ann Gullstrand of Union Beach; and seven grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Church. Burial was at Bay View Cemetery, Middletown.

      ELEANOR ELFENBEIN, 81, of Freehold Township died Jan. 21 at Applewood Estates Health Care, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, she had lived in Queens, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township 47 years ago. She was a self-employed writer, and a former correspondent and columnist for the Freehold Transcript. She was active in civil rights, especially the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, and in 1978 was the first recipient of the B’nai B’rith Harold Kaufman Service Award. She also was a ghostwriter of the autobiography of the Rev. John Stanley Grauel. She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin, in 1997. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Joyce Elfenbein of Montclair; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ron Ulmer of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment was held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Glendale, N.Y.

      LEON ZDANCEWIC, 89, of Freehold Township died Jan. 22 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was a lifelong resident of the Smithburg section of Freehold Township. He was a farmer of blueberries and cranberries. He and his wife spent their winters in Florida. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice (nee Anderson); a brother, Peter of Florence; five nephews; one niece; and his friends, Miller and Fran Lawrence.
