Choice of ferry over passenger rail line gives reader a good chuckle

I haven’t stopped laughing over a letter you published from Lisa Del Bianco (Sept. 13 News Transcript) advocating the use of ferries over rail transportation — and she’s from Englishtown.

I wonder if she ever thought about how anyone is going to get from Englishtown to the shore (Highlands, Atlantic Highlands, etc.) to take a ferry to New York. It would almost be easier to drive to New York.

Maybe she should also look into the cost of ferry transportation. The fee for round trips by ferry for 20 days could nearly feed a small family for two months.

Rail lines have been running from Bayhead to Newark and beyond for decades now, and I don’t see those areas doing too badly.

Lisa should take a drive through Spring Lake, Monmouth Beach, Little Silver, Red Bank, Rumson and Middletown to see the devastating effects of convenient rail transportation.

The trains are electric and you can’t even hear them coming and going. I commuted to New York by rail from such places as Summit, Little Silver, Red Bank, Middletown and Matawan for 30 years and can recommend it highly over bus service on Route 9.
