      Cougars wrap up B North basketball championship
           The championship that the Colts Neck High School boys basketball team has been chasing the last couple of seasons has finally come home. The Cougars completed two months of pressure basketball by beating Monmouth Regional High School, 80-57, on Feb. 9 in Tinton Falls.

           While winning a team championship is important, this weekend’s NJSIAA District 21 Wrestling Tournament at Manalapan High School is more about the individual.

      Patriots claim A North boys basketball crown
           The Shore Conference A North Division boys basketball title was up for grabs this winter. Any one of four teams could have won the championship, but it was coach Brian Golub’s Freehold Township High School boys who went out and claimed the crown.

      Colonials develop into winners
           Coach Jenn Brzucki took what she acknowledged was a gamble two years ago when she started three freshmen on the Freehold High School girls basketball team. Something told Brzucki it was the right thing to do and now that the Colonials are in the NJSIAAstate tournament and the Shore Conference Tournament, it was a gamble worth making.

      Appice, Aronson having big seasons for Braves
           I f it is not all the way back to Shore Conference prominence, the Manalapan High School wrestling team at least enjoyed a resurgence this winter. On the heels of a 12-13 dual meet season in 2010-11, the Braves posted a 17-6 dual meet record in 2011-12 and recorded some key wins that have them considered one of the top 10 teams in the Shore Conference again.
