      Marlboro hockey team set to defend Dowd Cup crown
           A s the calendar flips to February, coach Wayne Anderson is hoping his Marlboro High School ice hockey team will keep playing as if it were January. After starting the 2011-12 season with a 2-5 record in December, the Mustangs went 9-1 in January and are riding an eight-game win streak with the Shore Conference Dowd Cup Tournament looming.

      Howell bowlers strike it big
           What a week it was for Howell High School bowling. First, the boys and girls wrapped up their respective Shore Conference B Central Division titles. Then, on Feb. 4, the girls won the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV championship. The girls not only won the state sectional title, they owned it as all five starters qualified for the NJSIAA individual tournament.
